Unethical business practices; On Nov. 08, 2010 I paid Gainesville Eye Physicians (West Office) $212.83. I received my EOB in December and Blue Cross/Blue Shield had made payment and I had overpaid by $116.46. I called and was told I would receive a refund. On Jan. 15, 2011, I received a refund check in the amount of $116.46. On May 06, 2011 I received a bill from Gainesville Eye Physicians for $116.46, at the bottom of the bill this amount is listed under the 120 days box. I immediately called and the lady I talked to was very nice, she said she would have to do some checking and get back to me. Within an hour she had called me back and told me that Blue Cross/Blue Shield had taken the $116.46 payment back on April 29, 2011. I asked why but she said she didn’t know since no code was listed. She advised me to call Blue Cross/Blue Shield which was what I was going to do anyway. I called Blue Cross/Blue Shield and was told that I had not met my deductable for 2010 and the $116.46 went to the deductable. I asked for documentation in writing to that effect. (received documentation on May 12, 2011.) After speaking to Blue Cross/Blue Shield I immediately called the lady I had spoken to earlier at Gainesville Eye Physicians and told her reason that payment was taken back and that I would be in Gainesville (90 miles away) on Friday April 20th. and would drop off a check for the $116.46. I dropped off my payment before noon and drove home. Saturday morning I went to the Post Office to check my mail and had a letter from Gainesville Eye Physicians post-marked May 20th, and I opened it and in Large Black Bold Lettering it read FINAL NOTICE, Balance due $116.46, and in order to avoid having your account sent to a collection agency for further action, you need to pay your account in full. It is my understanding that before a business can turn you in to a collection agency three (3) billing cycles must have been utilized. I received one bill and acted immediately. Gainesville Eye Physicians was without full payment from April 29, 2011 till May 20, 2011, ONLY 21 DAYS. A phone call to me explaining what had happen was all that was necessary. I pay my bills, and anyone would be just like me wanting to know why six months later you receive a bill that according to your EOB was paid and you were sent a refund check from Gainesville Eye Physicians. Ever thing is on the computer and detail records of my payment, Blue/Cross payment, refund check to Me, and Return of Payment back to Blue Cross/Blue Shild should be documentated. The $116.46 placed in the 120 day box is not true, should have been in the 30 day box since no less than 30 day box exist.
