All I requested was a routine cleaning. Called ahead to be sure all would be 100% covered by my insurance and was told it definitely would be. Ask again at check in and was told once again my insurance would pay all. Every time they wanted to do more I was again assured it was covered by my insurance. Ask them again at check out and again was told everything was covered.

Now I get a bill telling me I owe them $20 after the insurance payment. Called them thinking they would adjust the bill to reflect what they told me but they would not.

Up-sell - deceptive billing - services I didn't ask for. Sounds more like a hooker or shady used car salesman.

-Review for services on July 31, 2014 at the Surprise AZ location.
-The appointment was for an exam and cleaning for my 3 year old daughter.
-Upon arrival I signed in and completed the consent to treat form. Upon completion the receptionist stated that my total will be $80.10. During this time the dental tech came out into the waiting area and was ready for my daughter to go back (very quick, no wait time). I asked the receptionist if I could take care of the bill on our way out. She insisted that I pay prior to the exam. I gave her a $100 bill and she asked me if I had smaller bills ($100 - $80.10 = $19.90 in change???), guess they didn’t have change. I told her that I would get my change on our way out as the tech was standing there with the door open for us to go back.
-The tech led us back to the exam room and we sat my daughter in the chair. Quickly after seating my daughter the receptionist walked into the exam area and asked me if I had a dime so she could just give me a $20 bill. I told her that I may have one in the car as I did not have any change on me. She then suggested that I run out to the car to get the dime and stated that my daughter had to have x-rays so I couldn’t be with her anyways during the x-rays. The audacity of this woman to suggest I leave my 3 year old daughter alone while I run out to the car to get a dime!!!! My daughter already fears the dentist and leaving her alone in a place she already fears would only add to this negative emotion. To top it off my daughter didn’t even require x-rays! I told her NO!
-The dentist then came in and he was great with my daughter and made her feel comfortable during the exam. Upon completion of the exam the tech started the cleaning. She completed all of my daughter’s top teeth and during this time she didn’t once ask my daughter if she needed to spit nor did she spray any water in her mouth. My daughter began to gag due to the lack of suction or supply of water. I told my daughter it will be okay and the girl will give her some water. This really was my way of suggesting that she irrigate my daughter’s mouth with the water jet and provide some suction to clear her mouth. At that point my daughter began to choke and I asked her if she needed to spit. The tech didn’t have the attachment hooked up to the suction so she had to fumble around with that while my daughter was choking. My daughter then proceeded to throw up in the chair. I moved my daughter to a seated position and then the tech started to raise the seat back. When she raised the seat back all of the throw up ran down the chair back into my daughter’s hair and the back of her shirt. I then mentioned again to my daughter that the girl will give her some water. The tech left the exam area and came back with a small cup with about a half of an inch of water in it, a bottled water was also handed to me. I was doing my best not to show my emotions in front of my daughter as I was furious. Another tech came over and helped clean my daughter up, she was very compassionate. At this point I had enough and we stopped the visit and headed to the waiting area.
-After we returned to the waiting area I then asked the receptionist if our tech was new due to all of the errors made. She stated that no she is not. I explained how the visit went and asked her a couple procedural questions in relation to a standard cleaning. I expressed to her how unhappy I was and that members of their staff should have more awareness when dealing with young children. She stated, “We are NOT a pediatric dental clinic”! The huge sign in the waiting room list pediatric dental in huge BOLD letters. I asked if I could speak with the Dr. or team supervisor. She then passed me along to another lady (I assumed she was a dental tech) while she headed to the back to get the Dr. As she left she told the other lady that I still owed ten. I asked the new lady I was speaking to as to why I now owed more money as I haven’t even received my change. She said it was ten cents, I told her I didn’t have any change and on top of that I felt I shouldn’t have to pay for this visit.
-The Dr. came out to the waiting room and I then explained to him what happened. I mentioned to him that I have never had a cleaning where the tech didn’t use the water jet or at least have it available. What really frustrated me was that the tech didn’t have the attachment on the suction tube nor did she explain to my daughter that she could spit if the cleaning compound or saliva started to pool in her throat!!!! He stated to me that he will have a talk with the staff regarding my concerns and he will use this situation as a learning/training experience for the future.
-They only completed half of her cleaning and still charged me the full bill. I am very disappointed and this office has multiple points of failure. I guess the saying the customer is always right does not apply at this practice. I am sorry to say that I can NOT recommend this practice and we will not spend our hard earned money at any of their locations.
