All good, This surgeon went out of his way to perform laparoscopic gall bladder surgery on my husband who had surgical mesh (from a large hernia repair to the diaphragm) that had to be gone through or around, as well as multiple adhesions (all due to a severe motor vehicle accident which had also ripped off his arm!) Dr. did not promise that he could, but would try not to have to do the "open" surgery which requires 6 or 7 days in hospital and a much more difficult recuperation period for the patient. Operation seemed to take a little longer than time estimate for usual laparoscopic procedure, but when Dr. came to family waiting room to tell me how the surgery had gone. he had successfully been able laparoscopically to remove my husband's gallbladder! I was so relieved (we always worry about MRSA when having to spend any time in a hospital!); I was able to take my husband home by the end of the day of surgery and now 10 days post surgery he seems quite back to his old great self! He had almost no pain from the surgical area but did have pain in the shoulder area from the carbon dioxide gas with which they have to inflate the surgical area so that the camera can view the surgical area (to show surgeon on monitor where he must move the micro instruments to do the surgery-- kind of like using 4 chopsticks through tiny holes in a paper bag I would imagine, and watching on a monitor to see where to move the chopsticks to cut, etc.) The carbon dioxide gas had to percolate through my husband's tissues to escape following the surgery and it took 4 or 5 days, I think, before his shoulder no longer hurt. (My husband said it was probably simjilar to decompression sickness, although of course only a tiny percent of the pain a diver would experience.) No pain near the surgical site. ( It helped that the doctor explained on the phone to us what was going on with his shoulder; totally relieved the anxiety that something was not right. ) Very impressed and happy!
