I used this office two times, the first time was during my first pregnancy. I had no complications or health issues, and when I had not gone into labor after my "due date" I was coerced into an induction for no other reason than convenience. At the time I was given information about potential risks of being post-due without anyone ever explaining not only that I had no symptoms of these risks, but that induction carries its own risks. Long story short, I had a horrible induced labor with a nightmare of a doctor who is no longer with this practice. It ended in an even more unnecessary C-section and a long, hard future of fighting for VBAC options. I went back to the office with my 3rd child, 2nd VBAC, only because I had had decent experiences with the other partners and I had gotten a good response when I questioned them regarding VBAC. One of the doctors constantly made recommendations to me for procedures I didn't need, limited the information he presented in order to avoid my asking questions, and even smirked at my birth plan and handed it back to me without adding a copy to my record. Being that I was once again past my due date, he immediately began suggesting induction, even though VBAC's carry a much higher risk of uterine rupture when given stimulatory drugs to induce labor. I denied, and he sent me for fetal monitoring only to find out that I was already having contractions. Even with this new information and no sign of risks or complications, another partner STILL suggested administering Pitocin to get things going. Thank god I was strong enough to decline. The OB that attended my birth was not at all helpful, she basically showed up to make sure I was constantly tethered to the fetal monitor, and because I wasn't allowed to get out of the bed as a VBAC, I was in extreme pain. I allowed medication only because I was exhausted from the pain of being stuck in one position. The drugs made me nearly incoherent, very frightening, and when the OB decided the baby was in a good position for pushing she grouped nurses on either side of me to hold my legs in the air while I was flat on my back. It was a painful and terrifying experience, one I would never repeat, so my advice is if you want a birth that is not full of intervention, dehumanization and that doesn't leave you feeling victimized, DON'T USE THIS OFFICE.
