In my opinion, my interaction with Mr. Costello was more harmful than productive in terms of marriage counseling. Again, in my opinion, Mr. Costello broached the ethical realms of counseling.

My husband and I agreed to go to a marriage counselor because our marriage was in jeopardy. We had separated and wanted to figure out it if was worth salvaging. I had called Scott to set up an appointment for my husband and I when the doorbell rings and I get a "surprise" service of divorce papers. My husband didn't feel the need to tell me that he was serving me. Regardless, we made an appointment to see him. We had been kicked out of another counselors office when my husband told her that "this was f*cking ridiculous" (marriage counseling).

Mr. Costello agreed to see both of us together, explaining that he could and would not see us individually.

My husband came to me and stated that we could not continue counseling because it was too much of a financial burden. Even with great insurance, we were paying almost $90 out of pocket per session; almost $400 a month. I agreed to stop going due to financial hardship.

Imagine my surprise when I found out that Mr. Costello was now seeing my husband as a client. My husband explained that he really liked Scott and that he wanted to work on himself. Scott agreed to see my husband and I was told that he could no longer see me and, better yet, when my husband and I wanted to re-enter marriage counseling, that Scott felt uncomfortable seeing us both again and that we needed to find another counselor, but that he had no problem seeing my husband individually.

I was also told by my husband that Scott had told him in private that he was better off getting divorced; something that Mr. Costello never relayed to me.

I believe Mr. Costello to be unethical and would never recommend him to anyone. If you want to see someone who knows what they are doing then please make an appointment with Vera Mitrovich in New Lenox. You will receive unbiased and up front ethical help for your issues. She holds no gender biases. You don't get any better or special attention because you are male or female. She has done more for my husband and I in three sessions than what Scott did in months and she is much more reasonably priced. She is willing to work with the insurance company.

the biggest problem I think most people have with their therapist is that they just sit there and listen and never say much. I strongly recommend Scott Costello and I also recommend his wife and Kelly Walsh. All of them have been a great, great help. Scott has a wealth of information to offer and actually he's an Amazing help. He provides lots of skills and techniques to help with problems and issues. it's a great investment!
