About

Riley K. Smith

Riley K. Smith, MA, LMFT#7928

I am a psychotherapist in private practice in MarVista/West Los Angeles.

I use and teach Integrative Body Psychotherapy and Attachment Based EMDR. I use breath-work, meditation, guided imagery, voice dialog and anything else I can think of that helps. I teach my clients mental-health tools. I treat root causes – usually attachment injuries and sometimes the residual effects of early childhood trauma.

I treat adult couples and individuals, helping with anxiety, depression, post-traumatic stress, addictions and adult survivors of sexual and physical abuse and relationship problems.

AS A TEACHER, I pass on what I’ve learned about psychotherapy, addressing the physical, mental & spiritual nature of being human. It is my great pleasure and my vocation.

I started my psychotherapy practice in 1976 about the same time I began the spiritual practices that continue to this day. In 1996, I began my training in somatic psychotherapy with Jack Lee Rosenberg, Ph.D. and Beverly Kitaen-Morse, PsyD. at the Integrative Body Psychotherapy (IBP) Central Institute in Venice, California. In 2002 I joined the faculty there where I currently teach. I also trained therapists for eight years as Clinical Director at an out-patient drug program. I was an AAMFT certified supervisor until 2008. I am a Certified instructor of Somatic Psychotherapy, California Bureau for Private Postsecondary and Vocational Education.

I am co-author of How to Be a Couple and Still Be Free, a problem-solving manual for couples, New Page Books, 2002 and TRUE PARTNERS, a workbook for building a lasting intimate relationship, Tarcher/Perigee, 1993

I am a member of CAMFT, AAMFT and United States Assoc. of Body Psychotherapists.
