I am writing this review based solely upon my interactions with Dr. Purmell and his staff via the phone – I never made it into Dr. Purmell’s office although he is accepting new patients and I had wanted to come in. I am new to the area and looking for a new dentist. I also happen to be pregnant. It is highly recommended that when you are pregnant, you get regular cleanings but no x-rays to keep radiation to your growing baby as low as possible. However, Dr. Purmell would not see me without doing x-rays. He even went as far as to recommend that I wait until after I deliver to come in for a visit. Either Dr. Purmell places technology in front of patient care, lacks flexibility in planning individualized and appropriate care, or lacks basic knowledge regarding caring for the dental needs of pregnant women. Either way, he is lacking. I have had to switch dentists due to insurance changes and/or moves many times in my life, and I know that usually when it comes to dentists, your first interaction is highly reflective of the services you’re going to get. I had high hopes for Dr. Purmell based upon all the positive reviews of him online, but based upon my interactions with his office, I know he is not the right dentist for me or my growing family.
