Dr. Brody is a pleasant, personable man. His work as a dentist is, I think, decent. Does cavities fine, did my bonding work fine, and was my dentist for about 2 decades. I never really had any problems with him or his office, until my last visit 2 years ago.

They used to have a great dental hygienist there for many years. (She was the one who cleaned patients' teeth.) But she eventually moved on, and Dr. Brody had a string of different hygienists for several years. A different one each time I was there. The last time, was this Russian (I think) woman, who was horrible. (I actually have Russian heritage, so this isn't that type of comment.) She was rough with the plaque cleaning process, cutting me several times, and she didn't seem to understand me when I asked her to be more gentle. After stopping/starting several times, I said let's stop. And then she wanted to argue with me. What??

So I got up, she kept trying to argue with me, and I walked to the front counter. I explained to Sheila (office manager or coordinator) that this hygienist isn't working for me, and are there any other options? There weren't, this was their only hygienist. I then asked Sheila if she could recommend someone else. I said I'm not looking to change dentists, but while the current hygienist is there, I'd like to find another, but keep Dr. Brody as my dentist who handles my other dental needs.

A couple days later, Sheila calls me and says I need to pay my bill. What?? "I explained to you what happened while I was there, and now you want me to pay $100?" She says she spoke with the hygienist, who said she had completed the job. I then told Sheila the hygienist was: a) covering her ass, b) not telling the truth, and c) don't you remember what happened when I was there? I came to you right in the middle of the cleaning?

Well, Sheila never has been one to show warmth towards people. Always pretty matter of fact. Even after nearly 20 years (yup, she's been there since the day I first went there). And it was rather weird that she was now calling me to say I needed to pay for the incomplete cleaning. She was very quick to believe a new hygienist (who lied) over a client of two decades. Wow.

Ultimately, Sheila does send me some referrals for other dentists, and says "Dr. Brody would prefer I just get my needs handled all with one dentist." So they essentially "fire" me, because I dislike their new hygienist. Now... that IS weird, especially when I was never a difficult patient in all these years.

The one other thing I'll say...
I could never understand why my fillings (not silver, but the white stuff) would never last more than about 4 or 5 years. But when I first got them as a kid, they lasted way more than 4-5 years. So I don't know if what is used nowadays by all dentists is just not as good as what was used in the past, or if Dr. Brody uses inferior materials. That's the one question I have about the work Dr. Brody performs. (And of course, his hiring of that awful hygienist, who I'm sure has been fired by now.)
