If you chose to manage your own healthcare go elsewhere. I was told when sitting down for a semi-annual cleaning that it was a mandatory requirement if I was to remain a patient, to have x-rays taken every year. This is the message the dentist told her hygienist to tell me when I stated I didn't want x-rays taken. It's not about spending the money for them. I have insurance and even if I didn't I can well afford them on my own. I had just had a full cranial and mouth x-rays taken the year before with them - no problems with my teeth at all, nor have I had any. I choose to limit my exposure to radiation, am very healthy with no dental issues whatsoever. My wife worked in a dental office some years ago and knows the of the high profit generated with x-rays. When profit motives override "best practices" for a patient's own choice to limit their exposure to harmful radiation, (no exposure is ever "safe"), it's time to find a provider that works to meet the patient's best interests and not $$ driven revenue goals. The dentist didn't even have the courtesy to speak with me about this directly after the hygienist went to her twice to express my concerns. I walked out. What a sad situation for all those uninformed patients.
