Do not see Dr. Richard Garfinkel. In my experience, he had the worst beside manners by far of any doctor I had ever seen. He was blunt, insensitive, disrespectful, arrogant, dense, condescending. He lacked any sense of empathy and compassion. Even his assistant, upon hearing Dr. Garfinkel's blunt diagnosis and answers to my immediate (in-shock!) questions, pulled me into a private room and apologized for Dr. Garfinkel's remarks and asked me to try and forget what Dr. Garfinkel had just said.

Put it this way- Dr. Garfinkel's very negative view gave me nightmares for a few years after that. After seeing Dr. Garfinkel, I consulted with other specialists, and every one of them disagreed with Dr. Garfinkel's diagnosis. Where Dr. Garfinkel made me feel like I was going to be blind in a matter of months, other doctors, including those at the esteemed Wilmar Eye Institute at Johns Hopkins University Hospital, all disagreed and urged me to continue with life as normal.

Dr. Garfinkel made me feel like I had the worse disease in the world, that my life was over, and there was no hope for me. I was scared stiff after visiting with him. He is one person I wish I had never met.

Here's the end of the story: I still see, long after Dr. Garfinkel said I wouldn't.

There are many retinal doctors out there- go see them before you ever go to Dr. Garfinkel. Unless, of course, you desire to be depressed for a long time.

They have a very good professional reputation. I know that I'm under the care of an expert. They made sure every single question I had was answered, and are always available if I think of any more questions I want answered. I didn't wait long at all. My appointment started on time, and the wait was much shorter than other offices I have been to. The one thing that I really enjoy about this place is their high level of customer service. Their full attention is always on me and they never take personal calls during my appointment. I've been to other places that answer their phone and it just drives me crazy.

Absolutely! It is right off the freeway and close to everthing
