Drinking too many sodas can cause Cavities (dental decay)

• What are Cavities?
Cavities are holes in the teeth that are a result of tooth decay. Tooth decay is the destruction of the tooth structure.

• Causes of Cavities:
a. Bacteria that live in the mouth use sugars and starches from food such as candy, bread and soda to form acids .The acids dissolve the surface of the teeth creating holes.
b. Sodas contain both acid and sugar. The acid in the soda dissolves and weakens the enamel of the tooth; this makes it easier for cavities to form.

• Cavities can be treated:
a. By placing tooth colored fillings in the early stages. Deeper cavities that infect the nerves may need Root Canal Treatment. Other treatment may include crowns or caps.
b. Regular check-up, proper nutrition and good oral hygiene can help you to keep your teeth for a longtime.
