Heart Disease & Your Gums -- Use your waterpik!

The link between heart disease and gum disease is well documented. Inflammation causes a constant increase in macrophages and white blood cells which don't stay just in your gums, they clog up arteries as well. Likewise, Diabetes is exacerbated by periodontitis & vice versa. But how dentists treat periodontitis is something that varies greatly.

Some of my favorite patients in our practice are those who USED TO have gum disease. These little old ladies were told 20 years ago to have their teeth removed by dentists we call "pullers". Not to disparage anyone, they had active periodontitis and bone loss. We are SAVERS. In our practice, on 3 month recall and excellent home care with waterpik using antibacterial chlorhexadine, medical strength (which we supply) these patients are totally cured! The teeth are solid, and their gums do not bleed or look red.
