The Heart Has Memory

Ever wonder what the Tin Man was hoping for when he went on his quest for a heart? He wasn't a real living being so it wasn't like he needed an organ to pump blood. He was looking for the emotional heart. The opportunity to recall memories and experiences from a personal side, not a factual one.

The brain keeps memories and the heart has memory. When you think about a pleasurable experience from your past and push aside the facts what do you feel? What part of the experience makes itself known to you? I would guess that at this moment a calm is coming over your body and you may have even let out a huge sigh.

You're experiencing the relaxation response and that response, that experience is good for your health. When confronted with a chronic or life-threatening illness, moments like this are the ones that recharge your battery so you can move toward wellness for one more day. You will have the capacity to think clearer about the choices you make in your life and in turn feel more in control of your life.

Look for those moments when you are experiencing heart. It will serve you well and it doesn't cost anything except space in your mind, body and spirit.
