For the record, high fructose corn syrup and fructose in general has been tied in studies to nonalcoholic fatty liver disease, HBP, obesity, diabetes, elevated triglycerides, etc. This is the sweetener of choice for soda pop and candy and other popular foods consumed by the ignorant and the destitute and children. Folks, there is nothing of value in soda pop. The only people that still defend its use are people paid to keep the public ignorant, people that work for the food industry, and those who want to get sick. I wonder about this article using the word "soda". Phosphoric Acid and caffeine are blamed for many of these things and they are almost if not exclusively in the "cola" drinks, not in others. So, specifying colas instead of "sodas" might be better. I also am wondering about "high-fructose corn syrup." Fruit, usually touted as healthy for you, is 100% fructose for the sweetness. When table sugar, sucrose, breaks down in digestion, it is 50% glucose (blood sugar) and 50% fructose. "High fructose corn syrup" is 45% glucose and 55% fructose, so only 5% higher in fructose. Honey is the exact same 45/55 ratio of glucose to fructose. If HFCS is so bad, should we not also warn against eating honey, or indeed, ANY fruit?
