Could the same hormone that brings love into our hearts and our children into our lives also bring cancer into our bodies? That's what we are led to believe. Clinical trials tell us, the news sensationalizes it for us, and our personal experiences with loved ones tell us. Or do they? Are we really seeing estrogen take a toll on our health or has our feeble attempt to treat ovarian failure been exposed?...

Recently, a doctor said to me, "We should put progesterone in the drinking water, then the world would be a better place." This doctor knew what he was talking about. For those that take it, the difference between before and after replacement is remarkable. This doctor knows firsthand the important functions of progesterone, not just on the uterus but the whole body. This doctor prescribes progesterone...

Testosterone is often referred to as a male hormone and that has always puzzled me. Since I started researching ovarian function it has always been quite clear to me that testosterone is a human hormone. It is produced by the gonads (ovary and testis) of women and men. After the gonads produce testosterone a small portion is converted to estradiol (the main estrogen of the ovary and the testis) and...

I get a lot of email that is very similar. "Ok, I've got hypogonadism, now what do I do?" "My doctor says that menopause is normal but I can't have sex anymore! How is that normal?" "Why do I need testosterone, I don't want to look like a man." "I don't want to change what nature meant to be, but I am miserable and can't sleep" "My wife is afraid of getting breast cancer so she would rather be miserable...

Believe it or not, your doctor already knows that bio-identical hormones are better for you because your doctor is already using bio-identical hormones to treat other patients with hormone deficiencies. Your doctor knows that diabetics are primarily treated with bio-identical insulin replacement. Your doctor knows that thyroid deficiency patients are primarily treated with bio-identical hormone replacement....

When I was 25 I remember going for a routine gynecological exam. When the exam was over I remember asking the doctor about what happens at menopause. He took me by the shoulders, looked me straight in the eye and said, "You won't even notice it" and then he walked out of the room. I knew he was lying to me because my poor mother was suffering terribly from horrible hot flashes day and night. One day...

Until you experience ovarian failure you really can't understand the impact menopause will have on your career. We've been told for so long that menopause is normal and even the National Institute of Health does not consider it a disorder. We tell ourselves that menopause should not have a negative influence on our career. The fact is menopause can easily derail a career. It can even destroy it. It's...

Menopause is a word that is usually reserved for women, so we think it only happens to women. Not true! If we look at how menopause occurs in a woman we can easily see how it can occur in a man as well. What may surprise you is that when menopause occurs in a man he will suffer the exact same symptoms as a woman. He will have hot flashes, sleep disruption, loss of sexual function, loss of stamina,...

How do we bring treatment of menopause into the 21st century? It is actually not a difficult thing to do. First, we recognize menopause for what it is, hypogonadism, and that we were healthier before our ovaries failed, and second, that once they have failed we simply need to replace the hormones the ovaries once produced. The ovaries produce many hormones so replacing just estrogen is not enough....

Hormone replacement therapy is used when the body makes less of a hormone than it needs. The purpose of any hormone replacement is to make a person healthier. Hormone replacement therapy is one of the most successful areas of modern medical science. In sharp contrast, women are being told that HRT for ovarian failure is not a healthy choice and that untreated hypogonadism (menopause) is a healthier...
