Heart & Cardiac Arrhythmia Treatment Remove
Heart & Cardiac Arrhythmia Treatment
Arrhythmia: refers to any change from the normal sequence of electrical impulses.
Electrophysiology (EPS) is the study of the electrical conduction patterns of the heart. The cardiac muscle is unique because of its intrinsic electrical pathways.
These pathways cause the cardiac chambers of the heart to contract or squeeze, promoting blood flow. The flow or pumping of blood from the heart to the body is dependent on this stimulus, which initiates contraction Thus, if an abnormal circuit (electrical pathway) exists, the efficiency of the heart may be compromised. Many of us at some time experience a skipping or extra heartbeat that can be perfectly normal.
But when the feelings (symptoms) last for a long time or interrupt everyday life resulting in dizziness, shortness of breath or feeling of anxiety, an appointment at our arrhythmia clinic may be an option.

Congestive Heart Failure (CHF) Remove
Congestive Heart Failure (CHF)
Congestive heart failure is the inability of the heart to supply the body with needed nutrients and oxygen. It can occur when the heart muscle does not pump vigorously enough to propel blood forward through the body, or when the filling of the heart between beats becomes more difficult and inefficient.
In both types of heart failure, fluid backs-up into the lungs and tissues. This increased pressure in the lungs results in fluid moving into the breathing and tissue spaces, causing shortness of breath, fatigue, loss of appetite, abdominal bloating, ankle swelling, weight gain, cough, a rapid pulse, nausea and/or chest discomfort.

Coronary CT Angiography Remove
Coronary CT Angiography
The CT Angiography procedure is a medical test your cardiologist can perform to help determine if your heart and surrounding blood vessels are at risk of becoming blocked by plaque (cholesterol) build up.
CT Angiography uses advanced imaging technologies that can create a three-dimensional, photo-realistic image of your heart and arteries. This 3D image of your heart can assist your cardiologist in assessing your risk for specific complications, such a heart attack or stroke. Not only is the CT Angiography test extremely accurate, it is also safe and is by far one of the most advanced methods of detection available today.

Heart Disease Prevention & Treatment Remove
Heart Disease Prevention & Treatment
The National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute has initiated a campaign to alert women to the risks of Heart Disease which is the number 1 killer of women. One in 3 will die of cardiovascular disease. In 2000, 366,000 women died compared to 42,000 deaths from Breast Cancer.
A half-million American women will die this year from cardiovascular disease. Since 1984, more women have died from heart disease than men and the gap continues to widen. Part of the reason is that women tend to under-estimate their risk and more often fail to recognize the symptoms of heart disease.
We, at State of the Heart Cardiology, have joined the Go Red for Women campaign launched by the American Heart Association, the US Department of Health and Human Services, and National Institutes of Health in an effort to raise awareness and provide information for women to take charge for their health.

Lipid Management Remove
Lipid Management
This clinic visit is with a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant who has received specialized training in lipid management and who works closely and is supervised by Dr. Osborne. The goal of the State of Heart Lipid Clinic is to help reduce the chance of developing coronary artery diseaseor minimize the progression of or even reverse the progression of coronary artery disease.
During a Lipid Clinic visit a patient’s cholesterol test is completed with a small blood sample taken from the finger. The results of the test are reviewed prior to the patient leaving the clinic. The visit allows time to review the cholesterol test, the current cholesterol medication, and to determine if adjustments are needed in medication and lifestyle. Cholesterol level goals are determined based on the National Cholesterol Education Program Standards.
