I went with my 73 year old Mother to visit Dr Kaplan as a referral from her primary physician. She had some lab work that was abnormal and she had not been feeling herself. Her blood pressure had been lower than usual for her and she has felt extremely tired for the last month. (which is very unlike her) Dr Kaplan's nurse was not very welcoming or concerned with why she was there, very task oriented. Dr Kaplan was not aware of the reason she was referred nor did he seem to want to know why. He was very matter of fact to the point of being rude. When she did try to explain her concerns he would act as if they were not important. He did say that it is normal for her blood pressure to decrease after exercise but gave no physiological explanation to help her understand. He ordered several tests to evaluate and help diagnose any unseen condition. He listened to her heart but that was the extent of his exam. We proceeded to the front desk where she was asked to state aloud her weight,her bra size an other personal information that to me is private. I would not want to say that where others could hear. The secretary had the same demeanor. We were given instructions for the test and we left feeling like no one really cared at that office. I feel that even if no one in the office particularly cares about the patient, in a Cardiologist office of all places they should be very thorough and caring to help alleviate stress. In addition I would like to say for as much as the appointment cost, my mother should at least feel like they stopped and gave her their full attention! Dr and staff need to realize that we are paying customers and not just someone else they have to see.
