Jeffrey Akman, MD
Jeffrey Akman, MD currently serves as the Interim Chair of the GW Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences and as the Chief of the Psychiatry Service of the GWU Hospital. He is a nationally recognized psychiatrist and academic physician executive. Dr Akman is a graduate of Duke University and The George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences. He completed his residency in psychiatry at The George Washington University Medical Center and joined the psychiatry faculty in 1985. Prior to his appointment as Dean of the School of Medicine and Health Sciences, he served as the Leon M Yochelson professor and chair of the Department of Psychiatry (2000-2010).
