Dr Maya Bitar is a board-certified, fellowship trained ophthalmologist who specializes in diseases and surgery of the cornea, the front part of the eye, and in refractive surgery including LASIK. She treats a variety of conditions that can cause red eye ranging from dry eye syndrome to tumors. She has expertise in cataract surgery and in all types of cornea transplantations including latest micro-incision techniques like DMEK (Descemet membrane endothelial keratoplasty) that allows patients with Fuchs dystrophy and other causes of corneal swelling to recover their vision in a couple of weeks. Dr Bitar serves as an associate professor of ophthalmology at George Washington University School of Medicine & Health Sciences.
