About

James Warlick, D.C.

At Gonstead Family Chiropractic, we pride ourselves in offering "good old-fashioned" hospitality. We provide our patients and their families with the most friendly, warm and courteous experience which we believe sets the standard for all others to follow! Our teamwork approach to your healthcare needs are as unique as you and your family.

Our doctors exclusively use the Gonstead chiropractic technique, which continues to yield tremendous results for our patients.

The clinic follows on from a long history of Gonstead Clinics dating back to 1923 when the first clinic was established in a small dairy town in Mt. Horeb, Wisconsin, USA. Since then, Gonstead Chiropractic has maintained its superb standard of chiropractic across the world.

This modern chiropractic technique is a natural method of healthcare that does not use drugs or surgery, in contrast the use of spinal adjustments, exercise, rehabilitation and nutrition are used as a complete approach to patient care. The focus is on treating the causes, rather than just the symptoms. With a normally functioning spine, nervous system, and a healthy lifestyle, your body is better able to heal itself.

Naturopathic Medicine and Wellness

The Healing Power of Nature
The body has an inherent ability to establish, maintain, and restore health. The healing process is ordered and intelligent; nature heals through the response of the life force. Gonstead Family Chiropractics role is to facilitate this process, to identify and remove obstacles to health and recovery, and to establish or restore a healthy internal and external environment.

Identify and Treat the Cause
Illness does not occur without cause. Underlying causes of disease must be discovered and removed or treated before a person can recover completely from illness. Symptoms express the body's attempt to heal, but are not the cause of disease. Symptoms, therefore, should not be suppressed by treatment. Causes may occur on many levels including physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual. At Gonstead Family Chiropractic we evaluate fundamental underlying causes on all levels, directing treatment at root causes rather than at symptomatic expression.

Heal the Whole Person
Health and disease are conditions of the whole organism, a whole involving the complex interaction of any factors. The naturopathic physician must treat the whole person by taking these factors into account. The harmonious functioning of physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual aspects are essential to recovery from and prevention of disease. This requires a comprehensive approach to diagnosis and treatment.

The Physician as Teacher
A cooperative doctor-patient relationship has inherent therapeutic value. The physician's major role is to educate and encourage the patient to take responsibility for their own health. The physician is a catalyst for healthful change, empowering and motivating the patient to assume responsibility. It is the patient, not the doctor, who ultimately creates/accomplishes healing. Teaching with hope, knowledge, and understanding, the physician acts to enable patients to heal.

Prevention — Prevention is the Best Cure
The ultimate goal of any health care system should be prevention of disease. This is accomplished through education and promotion of life-habits that create good health. The physician learns to assess risk factors and to sharpen their deductive reasoning, and to understand the patient's circumstances. Appropriate interventions are then sought to avoid further harm or risk to the patient. Building health works better and more surely than fighting disease.

Services Chiropractic Care
The Chiropractic profession is often poorly misunderstood, and many people have no experience with Chiropractors. Chiropractic is founded upon the premise that when spinal bones are functioning in normal motion and position, the central nervous system can deliver its vital energy for the proper function of the body's tissues, organs and systems. With this philosophy, Chiropractic is not simply treatment for pain!

Like Dentistry and regular check ups, Chiropractic involves regular check ups to identify subluxations in the spine, comparative to cavities in the mouth.

Everyday occurrences can cause the spinal bones to lose their usual motion or position. This can set off a chain reaction affecting the vertebrae, nerves, muscles, soft tissues and results in degenerative changes throughout the body.

Chiropractors are the only doctors trained to detect and correct subluxations through safe, gentle and specific adjustments.

The Role of Nutrition in Chiropractic Medicine:
Our 3 Phases of Care program makes it easy for chiropractors to integrate nutritional approaches to improve health and manage pain.

A Safer Approach—from Acute Care to Ongoing Wellness Care

Conventional treatment and management approaches for injury and chronic conditions—non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), corticosteroids, and muscle relaxants—have potential for serious adverse effects. Combining clinical nutrition with chiropractic care offers a safe and demonstrated effective approach to injury recovery and long-term patient care.
Targeted nutrition plays an important role in achieving maximum health after injury. Nutrients provide the materials necessary for repairing and building tissue, as well as safely managing pain and inflammation through specific biochemical processes relative to each Phase of Care.

The 3 Phases of Care—An Easy-to-Implement Program

Phase 1: Acute Care
3 to 5 Days

Target: Reduce pain, spasm, and swelling
Treatment strategy: Chiropractic care and nutritional support—turmeric, boswellia, ginger, proteolytic enzymes, magnesium, calcium, passionflower, and valerian
Phase 1 is characterized by inflammation as the body attempts to repair itself after injury. When inflammation becomes excessive or uncontrolled it can lead to delayed healing, pain, and chronic inflammation.

Phase 2: Sub-Acute Care
6 to 8 Weeks

Target: Improve range of motion, support joint function, and promote healing
Treatment strategy: Chiropractic care and nutritional support—hops, zinc, and berberine
Phase 2 is the primary repair phase, which accelerates after pain and swelling are controlled. During this time, the body continues to regenerate cells and collagen, as well as develop scar tissue.

Phase 3: Wellness Care
Ongoing

Target: Promote optimal health
Treatment strategy: Chiropractic care and nutritional support—high-potency multivitamin, EFAs, and phytonutrients

In Phase 3, the repair process continues and the goal is to bring patients back to a state of full recovery by supporting increased tissue strength, health, and integrity. Remember that tissue around an injury is not fully regenerated for several months afterward. So it's important for patients to continue care to avoid risk of reinjury. Ongoing nutritional support for maintenance will help reduce the risk of future injuries and help your patients stay healthy.
