About

Jeremy Martinez, MD

The Matrix Institute was formed in 1984 to treat addiction with a unique approach that was first applied to cocaine users. In 1986, Matrix became a nonprofit organization. The model for treatment, known as the Matrix Model, is an evidence-based treatment, which has shown good success in treating cocaine, methamphetamine, alcohol, and other drug problems. The mission of Matrix has expanded to include ongoing research, and training of therapists and other facilities in the delivery of this unique treatment model. Additionally, our mission is expanding to better treat co-occurring mental health problems that may result from or contribute to drug and alcohol use. A key component of the treatment model includes Family Education. In the course of treatment, adolescents and young adults will require involvement by the family in order to assure success in treatment. Our organization has an executive committee of five members, with clinic directors at each of our four locations.. Each clinic has a staff of therapists and administrative assistants.

The Matrix Institute provides treatment for drug and alcohol disorders, with four clinics in Southern California. Treatment at each of the sites involves the psychotherapy-based Matrix Model, which is administered by therapists, including Marriage and Family Therapists, License Clinical Social Workers, and other mental health professionals. While the focus of our agency is to treat addiction, we are uniquely positioned to facilitate the treatment of dually-diagnosed individuals. Matrix utilizes an integrated treatment approach including cognitive behavioral therapy – individuals with comorbid anxiety or depression show improvement in not only their addiction, but also in the improvement of their mental health problems. Additionally, our agency also has an Opiate Treatment Program at the Mid-City Los Angeles location. As mentioned above, part of the treatment model includes Family Education.
