I went to pick my dog up from Beaumont West after heartworm treatment and was told the vet wanted to see me. Dr. Seymour came in immediately and told me my dog had ruptured his CCL (similar to ACL in humans) while being taken outside to go to the bathroom on a leash. The doctor stated he is "pretty sure" the tear is complete and the only corrective option he recommends for a 75 lb dog is TPLO surgery.

TPLO will cost $2500-3500 and over half of dogs who have the surgery on one leg will tear the CCL in the opposing leg within 18 months. West End does not perform TPLO surgery so at least I know I was not being "upsold" an expensive surgery.

I debated even posting this review as this has been my first experience with this vet and I have no proof that they were negligent. I decided I should in case it helps someone else make the decision I wish like hell I had made.

I now have a baby who is in a lot of pain and has a very hard time navigating our hardwood and tile floors. I also have a month while he recovers from the heartworm treatment to decide if I can afford $3-7k worth of surgery on top of the $1300 I just spent.

Dr Seymour did say that in 20 years he has never heard of a dog tearing his CCL while walking on a leash. In case you're wondering, I was not offered an apology of any sort. I didn't really expect one as someone might interpret it as an admission of liability.
