I can't even give this horrible place one star. My father went in on a Friday for observation and by Sunday he was dead. Saturday morning he was unconscious with a tube coming out of his stomach to pump out the vomit he had asphyxiated on. I have no doubt it was from morphine overdose. they want to continually pump patients full of morphine even when they don't need it.

My father was in no pain. He had COPD. At the encouragement of the nurses, I was administering oral morphine at home to supposedly help him breath better. After several days of this, my father could not urinate. A nurse came to our home and said his kidneys were not working properly and advised me to send him to hospice to be supervised. In hindsight, I wish I had taken him to the hospital instead. I should never left him alone at that place. He was watching tv and asking when he could come home at midnight. I have to live with this decision for the rest of my life.

By the way, while my father lay dying, Dr. Stuart Owens had the audacity to tell my husband to take me out to a nice dinner and buy me something nice. WTF??? They are associated with Gentiva which is a huge red flag. Please, do not take your loved one there. Go online and do some research...you will see.

I'm sorry to say that my mother received terrible care during her 11 days in this facility. The facility is dirty, essential equipment is broken or unsafe, and staff takes no measures to wash hands or use hand sanitizer between patients. 75% of the nurses and aids need to be fired. They are cold, uncaring, and have no clue how to work with patients and families during such a difficult time. The pastor (Shane) is completely clueless when it comes to counseling or comforting dying patients and bereaved families. He defers everything to the social worker. If you ask a spiritual question he gives you a 'deer in the headlights' look. He has no business working in a facility like this. There are 2 RN's and 3 aids who are exemplary. The volunteers are amazing, each and every one of them. Other than those few people, our experience with the staff was a nightmare. Other than administering morphine and Ativan, the staff rarely checked on my mother. Do NOT let the hospital talk you into sending your family member here. If you care about your loved one go with MUSC palliative care instead.
