I had an abysmal experience with Dr. Sperling twice.

First off, I can't believe anyone claims this man is a wonderful, caring physician. Second, I can't believe I paid a great deal of money to this arrogant, unhelpful "doctor" two times. If the office he is a part of didn't make it so difficult to switch to another physician there, I would have changed doctors while I was seeing him the first time.
I initially went in to consult Dr.Sperling about my abdominal pains, which of course I had to have a colonoscopy for and an endoscopy. Everything looks fine in the scopes apparently, but he tells me "I don't know what is wrong with you" and then writes me a prescription for some highly addictive anti-spasmodic. Which of course, I didn't take. Why would I? If you don't know what is wrong with me, why prescribe me drugs? The second time I saw him, he was absolutely horrendous. I waited and then waited some more. His nurse practitioner arrives with a medical student and proceeds to ask me question after question at a very rapid pace. This lasted for about fifteen minutes. Then Dr.Sperling waltz in, interrupting his nurse and questions why she isn't done yet. Then they all leave walk down the hallway to discuss what the nurse practitioner learned from all the questioning. FYI I can hear them and what they are saying. I hear them looking at my chart and realizing that I am an established patient. The nurse overlooked this pertinent information. Then I hear Dr. Sperling say " I have seen her before, I not going to scope her again." Well, that's good news to hear from you, Dr.Sperling, while you are in another room down the hallway and you haven't even examined me yet.. Finally they come back, as they were gone for about ten minutes. Dr. Sperling sits down on his chair and proceeds to ask me every single question the nurse did, however, he never let answer one of the questions because he interrupted me every single time I tried to explain what I was going through. When I explained to him that my PCP thought I had Vocal Cord Dysfunction caused by acid reflux, his arrogant response was "well, I scoped you(2 years ago)and you were fine, and you don't have acid reflux because you don't have heartburn.". When I tried to bring up Silent Reflux he interrupted me and said "I studied this, you didn't". Everyone knows that Silent Reflux is a condition. I couldn't believe it! I looked over at the medical student, who sadly is "learning" from this man,and she had her eyebrows raised in unison with mine. Then, he said "I don't know what is wrong with.", and then got up to leave. I couldn't believe it. Really? This is how you practice medicine Dr.Sperling??? In my opinion, you need to "study" up on a lot of things 1) silent acid reflux 2) How not to be an insufferable jerk.
On a side note, I went to an ENT who actually performed a laryngoscopy, diagnosed severe inflammation from acid reflux thus causing my breathing problems and actually explained to me what was going on with me, prescribed me nexium to help my vocal cords heal (keeps the acid low in my stomach)and sent me to a speech therapist. Find a doctor who is not associated with this practice, if you absolutely must go to this practice, avoid Dr.Sperling. The way he practices medicine is appalling.

I have already given them multiple good recommendations to my loved ones. If anyone was in need of a gastroenterologist, I would totally direct them here. Every time I come here they always remember me by name and greet me as soon as I walk in the door, even if it's been months since my last appointment. They are so thoughtful and amazingly sweet, I just love this place. They always made sure that I wasn't in any pain. One thing I love about them, is that they're always willing to ask for other qualified professionals' advice when they don't have an answer for my question. I never have to worry about them giving me a wrong answer just because they weren't willing to ask for help.
