About

Julie Ford, MD

Dr. Ford is a solo practitioner and owner of Julie Ford Psychiatry. Her office provides a relaxed environment in a home setting. She enjoys getting to know her patients, finding out the specifics of their life experiences, and understanding their needs so as to formulate a plan that will improve their quality of life and decrease their psychologic symptoms. She has background in the science and art of Psychiatry and Psychology. In her opinion, these two are integrated and woven together like a unique custom-made garment.

Her twenty years of experience as a psychiatrist helps her to know what to listen for and when and how to make an intervention - whether it be of word or medicine. Twenty years has also taught her the value of patience; this she attempts to pass on to her patients as, sometimes, a bit of time is required before psychiatric symptoms will lift.

My experience with Dr Ford: Being a survivor of every type of child abuse except sexual, I have social anxiety. When you grow up not trusting your parents (my abusers), you don't trust anyone else either. She called my condition bi-polar 1 and put me on a regimen of 10 mg valium 5x/day and 1800 mg Seroquel (max dose is 800) plus 4 teaspoons of chloral hydrate (max dose 2 teaspoons) to help me sleep. I didn't fall asleep at night, I would get tunnel vision and black out. The blacking out terrified me, so she gave me another med to ease my "panic" about falling asleep. I was in an absolute fog for close to seven years from taking all the Seroquel. My wife calls my time taking the meds Dr Ford prescribed "the lost years". This woman will drug you into being someone you're not and call it improvement. I was on these meds when she ended our 17 year relationship with the words "I'll call you tomorrow". Punctuality means nothing to her, you'll never see her at the appointed time or any time close to it. Ask about her employment record. After completing her internship, she was employed at a few clinics, never holding the job more than a few months. She talked about why. I heard things like "It was a mill, I had a difficult boss" etc. Never Julie's fault. The reason she works out of her home is because in my opinion, she's unemployable. I will say this about her therapy skills, they're excellent. She helped me shed many of my demons, and I'm much better for the talk therapy we had. In conclusion, if you're okay with being absolutely stupefied by overdose levels of high-powered psychotropic meds, she's the one for you. If you need a little help without going through life absolutely stoned, see someone at a clinic that has a system of checks and balances. With Julie Ford, it's the Wild Wild West all over again, but with pharmaceuticals instead of a six shooter, and she's the only one in the relationship who's armed.
