Although they are not opposed to narcotics for chronic pain, Dr. Schmidt and his staff have an emphasis that is not narcotic based. Services Board certified anesthesiologist Dr. Roy Schmidt has practiced pain management in the Jackson area for two decades. In the fall of 2010, he and the Pain Specialist Center staff moved to 15 Stonebridge Blvd. to provide a full-service pain clinic for the region. Everything about the new medical facility provides a peaceful, comfortable setting for serving patients with best treatment options available now and in the future.

The Pain Specialist Center provides consultation and management services to patients suffering from chronic pain syndromes and terminal cancer pain. The most common conditions that they treat include back and leg pain, pain following back surgery, pain from work injuries including RSD/CRPS, neck and arm pain and muscular-skeletal pain.

The doctors and nurses work as a team to provide superior clinical care with the latest interventional treatments to help control and alleviate pain. Procedural options include several types of blocks: greater and lesser occipital nerve, trigeminal, cervical plexus, stellate ganglion, cervical facet, cervical epidural/cervical interlaminar, peripheral nerve of the upper extremities, suprascapular nerve, thoracic epidural, thoracic facet/median branch, intercostal nerve, celiac plexus, lumbar epidural, lumber facet, lumbar sympathetic, ilioinguinal/iliohypogastric nerve, lateral femoral cutaneous, caudal epidural, hypogastric plexus and impar ganglion, sacroiliac, and neural of peripheral nerves of the lower extremities. Additional treatments include lysis of adhesions/racz procedure, peripheral nerve simulators, spinal cord stimulation, and implantable drug delivery therapy.

Pain Specialist Center staff members also offer hyperbaric oxygen therapy through the Tennessee Hyperbaric Center, which is located in the same building. Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) is the only non-hormonal treatment approved by the FDA for biologically repairing and regenerating human tissue. Having this wide range of treatment options allows the staff to offer patients alternatives that will best suit them.
