Enabling Love

Women shouldn't be so hard on each other.

The woman who wrote this article http://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-1380222/Female-Viagra-scam-Drug-manufacturers-wrong-cash-in.html slams the drug company, Proctor and Gamble for creating the first ever testosterone patch for women. This patch provides bio-identical testosterone in a dosage that is completely appropriate for a woman. In a field like hormone replacement that has, for decades, manipulated women and their doctors into believing that taking pills condensed from horse urine would replace the intricate balance of hormones that was once provided by their ovaries, it is a breath of fresh air to have a product that pure and honest.

It is no scam, it is progress. This testosterone patch and future testosterone preparations will be added to transdermal estradiol and progesterone replacement regimens and make them even healthier. With healthier regimens women will be able to expect a complete reversal of their osteoporosis and significant reduction in breast cancer and yes, improved sexual response.

I know personally how healthy a regimen of estradiol, progesterone and testosterone can be. My own mother went on this trio of hormones using almost the same dosage that I use. At her next bone density test we found out she no longer had osteoporosis because her bone density increased 13.3%! Her osteoporosis was reversed. Nothing else can increase bone density that much, not bisphosphonates like Boniva and Fosamax, not parathyroid hormone, and certainly not Premarin. The most powerful combination of hormones that can reverse osteoporosis is not approved because of politics, not because they don't work!

Sexual response may wane because of either emotional or physical changes. The physical changes can be treated easily if only doctors would question the illogical and irrational data generated by 'HRT' clinical trials. Just to be clear, in the history of testing hormones on women there has never been a real HRT trial. No trial has ever used replacement of all of the ovarian hormones, in the right levels, delivered in the right way. Ovarian hormone replacement, like any other hormone replacement, when done right, works to keep you healthy for as long as you live because your body never loses its need for all of its hormones. It makes more sense to fix the physical changes first then work on emotional needs second. For sexual response the emotional pieces have to be in place as much as the physical pieces. The mind-body connection isn't a myth it is real.

What isn't pure and honest is the vigor some women put into stopping other women from maintaining passion to fuel their long-term relationships. Testosterone is a fact of life. It is for sex and it is for other things like giving a woman patience for her family and her job as well as a key ingredient in keeping her bones strong. Testosterone, in the right level, can battle fatigue, depression and weight gain.

Are pharmaceuticals the answer? Sometimes, yes. Just because hypogonadism is not readily diagnosed in women doesn't mean it does not exist and take its toll on a woman's health.

Are pharmaceutical companies manufacturing an illness called loss of libido? No, they are not. They may be making people aware of an existing condition. If your body needs a bit more testosterone than just be grateful that a pharmaceutical company finally did something right.

Thank you Beth for the wonderful article. I am glad to see that pharmaceutical companies are addressing the needs of menopausal women. There is a great book I read by Susan <url removed> goes into many details why women need testosterone and the dosage you should take. Women are very hard on themselves, There seems to be two very different thought on what menopause is. The women who think menopause is just a natural stage in life and are willing to give up on their sexuality. The others know that menopause left untreated is no different then any other disease. I had the opportunity a few weeks ago to speak with gyn doctor online. I ask him how the research was going in finding a cure for <url removed> seemed to be quite taken back by my question. Giving me the standard answer that there is not a cure needed. He was just another idiot doctor out there.
