Odd menopause research

We know what causes menopause and we know that menopause results in multiple hormonal deficiencies because the ovaries make multiple hormones. Lose the ovaries and you lose the hormones. We also know that replacing only estrogen leads to all kinds of problems and is not a good idea. We know that only replacing estrogen and progesterone is also not a good long term solution and also leads to health problems.

We have seen appropriate research in which all of the hormones lost due to menopause, estradiol, progesterone and testosterone, are replaced and all sorts of good things happen. With all of the hormones replaced women can sleep, their gut can absorb vitamins and nutrients better, they can have sex, they have stamina, and they are protected from depression, breast cancer, osteoporosis and more.

So what is going on that now women are subjected to partial treatment once again? What do you think the long term consequences are going to be? How do you think they are going to feel on these regimens?

What kind of world do we live in where women are treated more like lab rats than like adults? Every single woman in a recently published study had multiple hormone deficiencies due to their illness, profound hypogonadism. Profound hypogonadism is the medical name for menopause. These women were only given one ovarian hormone, testosterone, and no others. Why give a treatment with built-in deficiencies?

The research I am referring to is a clinical trial in which women were given only testosterone, no estrogen, and no progesterone. This trial was testing whether their sexual function improved. It did, slightly. The title of the study is, "Testosterone for low libido in postmenopausal women not taking estrogen".

The recruited women had estradiol levels near zero and were given testosterone via a patch to increase their testosterone to youthful levels, which created a hormone ratio not ever seen in a normal woman. A pre-menopausal woman has a ratio of estradiol to testosterone of about 1 to 10 or about 10 times more testosterone than estradiol. In this study, because no estradiol was given, the resultant ratio of estradiol to testosterone was 1 to 100. If a pre-menopausal woman walked into a doctor's office with a testosterone level 100 times higher than her estradiol level she would be evaluated for a serious illness because this is completely unacceptable in a normal woman! By doing this kind of research what illnesses are these researchers setting these women up for?

Why not let a woman live as a woman, as a whole person?

Why not just treat the root cause of their illness, the multiple hormone deficiencies of menopause, and allow women to be women?
