Earth date: October 19 2010. My partner Terence and I went to India to have a natural holistic birth. Since we could not find a midwife due to the language barrier, we decided to DO IT OURSELVES :) .

Jadzia India was born by the sea side on Saturday March 13th 2010 at 12:30pm and less than 1 hour after her birth she was already a celebrity. She has been featured in 2 news papers, 4 different television news reports and 1 Indian Health Magazine, for being the first foreign baby born in the city of Kovalam, Karela, India.

What makes this story really interesting is that Zia was delivered by her parents in a hotel room bathroom. It was a completely natural birth, which lasted approximately 9 hours. Thanks to Ricki Lake's documentary "The Business of Being Born" I knew to stand up during my contractions which definitely sped up the process.

I went in labor at 3:11 am on a Saturday morning. We could have called an ambulance but we decided to let my body do its job while Terence guided me and supervised the arrival of the baby. Luckily we also came prepared by using our trusty apple laptop to take a web snapshot of step by step directions on "How to deliver a baby on your own".

I had a previous pregnancy where I took a traditional route and it ended in a miscarriage. So this time I decided to do it my way, completely natural! Women have been birthing for ages and I was confident in my body's ability to be able to give birth naturally.

While using visualization techniques Terence and I meditated through my contractions and we went into a trance where two hours felt like 10 minutes. People are amazed when they hear that I felt LITTLE to NO pain, my contractions felt like strong cramps coupled with pressure on my lower back. My entire delivery was a breeze because I learned about my body ahead of time and did not fear as my contractions progressed. Fear causes the muscles in the body to become tense resulting in resistance to the natural flow of the birthing process-thus causing pain. As for Terence, his only concern was to make sure he caught the baby.

Once Jadzia was born the neighbours called the local 911-type service and police and medical services arrived.
The doctors inspected the baby and I and gave both of us a clean bill of health. In fact I felt amazingly energized and euphoric.

On day 2 of being a mom I went for a dip in the ocean. My speedy recovery from birth astonished the locals as in India it is a tradition for women to remain secluded for 6 months after birthing.

As far as stretch marks are concerned... I have NONE. This is so because my diet consisted of mainly live and raw fruits and vegetables while keeping myself well hydrated throughout my entire pregnancy. I drank between 3 to 4 liters (or 12 to 16 cups) of water per day. Most people usually over eat and under hydrate during the course of their pregnancy. They follow the "8 glasses of water per day" rule of thumb... That simply does not suffice. So drink up! I recommend having a couple glasses before and after eating a meal or a snack...and before you know it you have gotten used to drinking plenty of H2O. Everything is difficult until it becomes easy.

As for our beautiful baby girl. We weighed her on a fruit scale at a local market. She weighed a healthy 3 kg which is equivalent to 9 fist-size pomegranates or 6.5 lbs.

To tie off this out of the box birthing story I'd like to inform you that we recently started a health & wellness consulting company by the name of Womb Temperature Canada. We specialize in hosting seminars, retreats and online consultations showcasing what we have learned pertaining to the Art of Living.
