I have started getting it removed with a laser since last October.  I've had a few sessions so far.  I'd have to say that I was surprised that the laser hurt about the same amount as getting the tattoo put on.  I thought it would hurt a lot more.  The tattoo is quite a bit faded but I still have at least a few more treatments to go.
