My experience at highland hospital bariatric facility can only be described as horrific. The surgeon was brusque and rude, there were many complications & worst of all one of the nurses, "Bea" was a horror show. She was totally incompetent, hostile & nasty and very unprofessional. I am still suffering the effects of this surgery years later. Did I lose weight? Yes, way too much. I started out at a high of 310 and dropped down to 115 ! I'm still badly diabetic, and have developed chronic kidney stones as a result of this surgery- none of which they tell you about! I've also been anemic and need intravenous iron infusions. Colonoscopies have proven impossible because the preps don't work and they can't see anything. I continue to have dumping after every meal- the racing heart part is the worst and I have to take a beta blocker. Eating most food is an ordeal, stomach pain, abdominal cramping follow every time. No longer can I go out to dinner as I feel ill afterwards & may need to lie down. At the least I'm very uncomfortable. I often must eat standing up. And forget about sugar or moderate to high fat foods. I did this surgery with my eyes wide open, did all the work & classes & educated myself ad nauseum about it and still everything went wrong. My pain went untreated after surgery. I was left in horrible pain because pain med wasn't ordered! My husband frantically chased the nursing staff around to get me help and nothing but a run around was given. Total miscommunication, lack of it & just plain apathy. I was told my diabetes would probably resolve. It did not. I'm on 2 meds & my a1c is over 9. I'm too thin & look older & not good. The only benefit to the surgery was a big reduction in my triglycerides & blood pressure however now it is too low & I feel dizzy & light headed. The way my husband & I were treated at the hospital and after was appalling. I gave up on aftercare, moved out of the area and new docs have had to pick up the pieces. Just a warning, things may not turn out as you expect.
