While on a business trip last year, I called to check on my mother. The owner of the facility was very evasive when I asked about my mother and wanted me to talk to her when I got home from my trip. I insisted she tell me what the problem was. When she finally reluctantly told me, I knew immediately mom had had another stroke. The owner was very, very resistant to calling an ambulance. I had to argue on the phone, finally saying "Will you call an ambulance or will I?" She finally did, mom had had a stroke several days earlier, did not get help as soon as she should have, and to boot, when I went back to get her things, the owner had no idea where mom's toothbrush was. Mom's teeth deteriorated badly during her time there, and the dentist (Keowee Dentistry) says mom had a long period of bad hygene and will soon loose a lot of teeth and need a lot of expensive care. Additionally, the owner is very brusque with the poor elderly people there and was very rude to the hospice people who came to bathe and care for mom, and to the hospice nurse who brought to my attention problems she had with the owner.. Shame on me for having my mother there so long. The owner and her husband were also rude to people who went to visit my mother. Additionally, she puts these poor people in recliners in front of the TV all day with cartoons BLARING, and you can't even visit or have a conversation. I told my husband, I am so angry with myself for having my mother there. Mom is at another place in town now, and doing much better.
