I have been going to the Whites for awhile now, I had braces in high school and have gone back to get retainers and what not. The orthodontists are great, I always enjoyed talking to them and they were very sympathetic and caring. The thing that is lacking is explaining to the patient what is happening with their process. I like to think I was able to comprehend generic orthodontic terms as a high schooler but typically I would come out of my appointment and have no idea what they did. It would be a simple process to explain to the patient what needs to happen with each and every visit not just "everything looks good". I recently had to go back to get impressions for a new retainer. The assistant not only had no idea what she was doing but she barely even talked to me. The impression was left in my mouth for way longer than it should have been. I thought I was just imagining how long she had it in there but then the boy next to me also had impressions done by another assistant and sure enough the amount of time that the impressions were left in his mouth were significantly shorter than mine, probably by almost a minute. I typically can control my breathing for the amount of time it takes to get an impression but it was a lot harder when it was in there for so long. But she did it wrong the first time and had to do another one. This time she put so much stuff in the tray that it started going down the back of my throat and I started gagging. Almost threw up. All she did was just kept telling me to breathe, rather rudely. I can't breathe if I have that stuff in the back of my throat, lady. I just think that the doctors need to make sure that their staff is explaining everything correctly, knows what they are doing, and has good "bedside manner" so to speak. I love the receptionists, they are always very good at working with you and willing to help. And there are some assistants that are great. But I think to make the practice even better they would have to recognize their weaknesses and realize that the patient is the main priority.
