I didn't like this doctor at all. I visited the office because I had a sinus infection. She would not stop about wanting to do a gyno exam because my last one was 14 months ago... 2 months overdue. I politely declined, told her I had a doctor for that... but she kept on about it. She made me feel very uneasy. I won't go back to the family doctors in Shreveport again.

Sometimes, I have to persuade them that I have an important concern that needs their attention. Dr. Mercer just does not take situations seriously. I walked in there barely able to breathe and she sent me home with some meds. I called 2 days later to say it was much worse and I needed to be referred to a specialist. The nurse (Vera) said that it would take at least 2-3 weeks for a specialist, but she would get my message to the doc. Well, I didn't get a call back until the next day. She wanted to schedule a CT Scan. I was anxious to schedule it that day, but it took until the next week b/c they kept putting it off. I ended up in the emergency room b/c it took them so long. By the time I was ready to go back to work, I had to practically beg Dr. Mercer for an excuse. She told me I should've gotten one from the emergency doctor!!
I've been seeing Dr. Mercer for years and I keep telling myself I need a new doc. Well, this was definitely the last straw for me!! I will never return to her office again!!

Their STAFF is very friendly and professional. That is where it ends for me. A medication regimen that had managed my severe anxiety disorder quite well for years was abandoned, nearly cold turkey, as I started a new job, traveled across the country with two small children, and experienced the tragic loss of a child care worker that had known my children their entire lives. One medication was changed and the other was decreased to 1/6 the dose. The worst part was that she wrote it for 1/2 the dose, indicating that we would decrease it over time, and then refused to refill it for another month, which left me a nervous wreck for weeks. I could actually understand her not feeling comfortable writing the medication as a family practitioner, but to discontinue it immediately while I was in agreement to see a psychiatrist was cold and insensitive at best, and medically irresponsible at worst. Dr. Mercer seemed to label me immediately instead of getting to know me, and, though I was told (and again after calling back) that they would set me up with a psychiatrist to continue my medication, I have yet to be contacted. I had heard wonderful things about her, but as I've been up since 4:00 a.m., now a common occurrence for me, I felt compelled to let others know. She's probably wonderful if you just need the basics, but don't count on sympathy, understanding, or compassion if you have any sort of anxiety problem. The saddest part is that, while I am returning to my original family practitioner (ironically, the only reason I'd left was because of rude office staff, and that's the only thing that I liked about Dr. Mercer's office), because I am so anxious, I still stress over knowing that she apparently thinks of me as some sort of pill junkie or something. What a shame, I wish she had taken the time to listen and get to know me.
