An Obstetrician deals with women during pregnancy and for a short time after pregnancy. Obstetricians also monitor and care for the health of the fetus. They perform regular ultrasounds, generally during the 12th week and 20th week of pregnancy to determine the health of the fetus. Exams are performed on a regular basis during pregnancy to identify any complications such as ectopic pregnancy, fetal distress and pre-eclampsia (high blood pressure).
