Our dog got bit by something out in the yard the area was red with a small bump. I washed him off with fels-naptha soap and peroxide. Friday he had a huge abscess on the back of his leg. We don't have a regular vet in the GR area, I called around and no one could see him. We took him to VET IQ at Meijer. The vet there asked if I knew he had a heart murmur, (no I sure didn't) she couldn't help us and referred us to Red Barn veterinary clinic on 64th and Division. I drove the half an hour down there and waited 1 and 1/2 hours in the parking lot for the vet to see our dog. When the vet came in I explained everything including what VetIQ told me about his heart. She looked at the back of his leg stuck a needle somewhere in his leg came back in the room told me there are quite a few white blood cells around the area, gave him an antibiotic and a painkiller/anti-inflammatory, then left the room. The tech came in to collect the $200 payment. I asked when I would notice the swelling going down if it doesn't when should I bring him back, the tech consulted the vet came back in told me don't bring him back before he's done with antibiotics. Sometime during the night on Friday the abscess burst I called Red Barn, asked if I could bring him back because this had burst the person answering the phone told me no, they're already full for today take him to pet emergency. I googled veterinary hospitals I called Family Friends over on 28th by Cascade. they could see him at 4:40. When we got there they immediately took him in. I explained everything to the vet she looked him over, did a full physical then she looked at his leg. She told us that his heart murmur is a three out of six but that X-rays at the urgent Care would be expensive, she would set up an appointment later to take care of that she was more concerned about his leg. After 2 hours of surgery she told us she removed about a 3-in diameter circle of necrotic tissue and had hoped she got all the infection she inserted drains in his leg to drain any remaining infection, told us the stitches may not hold because there was barely enough skin to hold them together, told us if we notice the skin turning black, or any color discharge bring him immediately back.
