About

Stephen Knoyer, D.C.

Dr. Stephen Knoyer is a Doctor of Chiropractic and licensed to practice in the State of Maryland. A graduate of the New York Chiropractic College (NYCC), he was honored with the DD Palmer Memorial Award when he graduated. This award is granted to the graduate who displayed characters best exemplifying those of a teach/faculty member.

His internship was completed at the Veteran’s Administration Medical Center, Canandaigua, New York, and the Veteran’s Administration Community Based Clinic Medical Center, Rochester, New York. His time there allowed him to do rotations with specialties including: Orthopedics, Podiatry, Neurology, Physical Therapy, Dermatology, and Primary Care. The multidisciplinary setting gave him a unique understanding for better patient care and outcomes.

Dr. Knoyer practices as an evidence-guided provider. Evidence-based medicine is the constant evolution of learning, changing, and implementing new information into practice as it becomes available. This lets him provide a more precise assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and reduction in therapy time. This process has led to the path of functional medicine.

The main goal is to address each person as an individual with different needs, professions, activities, sports, etc., to formulate goals necessary to resolve the patient’s complaint(s). The necessary time is taken to establish a detailed history, physical examination, functional tests, movement screening, treatment plan, and goals for each patient. The goal is to educate each patient on what caused the injury, show them how to remove the patterns that created it, and the necessary therapy to resolve the condition.

Dr. Knoyer has been invited to the National Institute of Health (NIH) multiple times as a reviewer making him one of a few chiropractors in the country to be invited. He served on the medical staff for the Backyard Burn races in Northern Virginia, the ring doctor for the Bando National Kickboxing tournaments, and currently is a paramedic for the Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service (MCFRS) in Maryland.

When not treating patients, Dr. Knoyer enjoys kettlebell training, hiking, kayaking, snowboarding, teaching Bando - Traditional Burmese boxing or Lethwei - and training in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.

I was seen almost as soon as I walked in the door. I didn't have to reorganize my day around my appointment at all. I knew I was getting top-of-the-line treatment when they told me about what they learned at the latest conference they attended, and how they were incorporating that knowledge into the practice. I'm always amazed at how considerate and concerned they are for my well-being. Their advice is always wonderful and completely unbiased. Not only did I find a parking spot right away, but I knew my car was safe because the spots were designated and close to the entrance. I never had to doubt their qualifications. They made their credentials completely obvious, which made me feel a lot safer.
