I met with Dr. Byers for 13 weekly sessions between 4/26/18 and 7/26/18. Even though I had told her that I’d only be meeting with her for a few months, she spent our first two sessions taking an extensive history. That seemed unusual, but it wasn’t a deal breaker. I learned quickly that she does not like silence, as she fills any silence with her own words. Again, that’s unusual for therapy, but it wasn’t a deal breaker. She knows that her telephone system is unreliable. Instead of fixing it, she asks clients to call and leave multiple messages. That’s poor office management, but, still, that wasn’t a deal breaker. At one of our last sessions, she referred to a woman as “two t*ts and a c*nt.” I told her that I was offended by her selection of terms. She tried repeatedly to justify the misogynistic words but there’s just no justification for that. I politely asked for an apology. She never apologized. I had never so much as cursed in her presence and she thought it therapeutic to use the c-word in a session. That was a deal breaker.
