My dog was yelping and I was not sure what was wrong with him. My sister knew Dr. Calley. We went to her house and she gave him a depo shot and some pain medicine. This was on 10/14/12. I went in a couple weeks later to get flea treatment. He was weighed at that time and was 17.5 pounds. This was 10/27/12. Dr. Calley saw my dog and indicated he needed to lose weight and needs to get the depo shot every month. Based on her diagnoses, I went in on Saturday, 11/24/12 for the shot as suggested by her. Between 10/27 and 11/24 my dog was drinking water excessively, having accidents that he never had before, not eating. At that appointment, he was put on the scale and weighed 11.5 lbs! 6 pounds in less-than 30 days. That should have been alarming. All the above information was provided to the vet tech Keisha. She dismiss all the symptoms, including the weight loss as oh well he is getting old and gave me all these bogus reasons. They did not make sense to me, but she is the professional not me. I really don’t think she wanted to be bothered with looking into the symptoms. Just keep feeding the customers BS and then move on. She then took my dog and gave him a depo shot. ALL THESE SYPTOMS ARE DIABETES!
Giving a diabetic dog a steroid will kill them. My dog went into a tail spin. He began vomiting and his breath smelled like rubbing alcohol. When I got him to the vet hospital, he was admitted. His blood glucose was over 800! He was very close to falling into a coma. WHY WOULD A VET TECH NOT KNOW THE SYMPTONS OF DIABETES IN DOGS?? I have to admit, I did not even know dogs could get diabetes. But an easy google provided me with all the information. My dog had to stay 2 nights in the hospital. It is Jan 2013 and based on the BG curve the doctor determined that his diabetes was brought on by the steroid shots. In the end, my dog almost died and the treatment and hospital stay cost me over $5000.00. I called Dr. Calley to let her know what happened and to ask why Keshia would not know the basic information a vet tech should know. I left her a message about my dog and what happened and asked her to call me back. She did not even have the consideration to call me back. After the first visit to her house, I donated $300.00 to her Livestrong Triatholon. After what happened to my dog under her watch, how can she accept that money?

Just as a side note, I was very impressed with how conveniently located this business was and how close it was to other shopping centers. It was so easy to find, I didn't have any trouble at all. Their staff is the most friendly, welcoming staff I've ever dealt with. They are so warm and professional, and make the whole experience that much better. They always return my phone calls quickly. I always know that I'll get a prompt answer to my question. My pets love it here and they are never anxious to leave . I will absolutely return.
