Dr. Charles Simkovich, D.C

Simkovich Cranial Institute is a concussion clinic that treats clients nationwide. Dr. Simkovich is one of few practitioners in the U.S. certified to implement Cranial Movement Therapy (CMT) to treat concussions and neuro-traumatic injuries. Unlike many standard forms of concussion treatment, CMT is a treatment informed by anatomy, physiology, & neuroscience for which we have experienced tremendous success w/ our patients for over 30 years.

Due to the success of CMT, patients have traveled from throughout the U.S. and as far as Europe to Pittsburgh, PA to seek Dr. Simkovich’s expert opinion. Many of these patients, including prominent athletes from the NFL, NHL, PGA, LPGA, and pro-boxing organizations, had previously suffered for years from concussion symptoms that standard treatments failed to alleviate. The results achieved for his patients have often been described as “life-changing,” and in many cases, these treatments have resulted in full restoration of patient’s pre-concussion status.

Concussions caused by brain trauma can get progressively worse if standard treatment options fail. Often, if normal cranial bone movement isn’t reestablished, the brain cannot and will not return to pre-concussion status.

CMT is a revolutionary treatment for people with problems arising from concussion, TBI, traumatic brain injury, neuro-traumatic injuries and head trauma. We have treated over 10,000 patients, achieving overwhelmingly positive & predictable results since 1986.

No matter where you reside, if you’re experiencing debilitating symptoms due to head injury, we offer a full consultation free of charge to discuss a patient's symptoms, health history, and recommended treatment. Again, there is never a charge for the consultation.

Services Simkovich Cranial Institute is a concussion clinic that treats Concussion, TBI, Traumatic Brain Injury, Neuro-traumatic Injuries, and Head Trauma.

Our Treatment Philosophy
Guided by standard practices, medical professionals treat the symptoms of a traumatic brain injury (TBI) or concussion (e.g., migraines, nausea, depression, mood swings, etc.). While some people respond to these treatments, others experience little or no symptom relief, even after weeks or months. For these people, migraines, mental health problems, vision challenges, and difficulty remembering things become their new way of life, and many give up any hope of returning to their pre-concussion life.

At Simkovich Cranial Institute, we believe that standard TBI and concussion treatments are ineffective for so many patients because these traditional treatments focus on alleviating symptoms rather than addressing the head injury itself. Current standard treatments for TBI are akin to giving a person pain medication for a broken arm without resetting, casting, or otherwise addressing the broken bone. The symptom (i.e., pain) is alleviated, but the arm is unlikely to return to its normal strength and functionality because the appropriate steps needed to heal the broken bone were not properly addressed.

Just like the physical damage sustained by a fracture needs treated properly to ensure full recovery, we believe that the physical damage resulting from a TBI must be addressed properly before a person is able to return to their pre-concussion life. At Simkovich Cranial Institute, we address this damage by treating TBIs and concussions at their source using Dr. Simkovich’s revolutionary Cranial Movement Therapy (CMT).Concussion Treatment via Cranial Movement Therapy (CMT)

What is Cranial Movement Therapy (CMT)?
CMT (cranial movement therapy) restores the normal “intrinsic” movement of the cranial bones, which is altered after a concussion, or several smaller blows to the head. When a person experiences physical trauma to the head, this normal movement is altered, which has a direct affect on brain function. Abnormal cranial bone movement causes symptoms such as headaches, reading issue, memory problems, anxieties, depressions, balance issues, coordination issues.

Why is CMT Treatment Necessary after Suffering a Concussion or Head Injury?
Without CMT, the brain will continue to deteriorate over time and the symptoms that an individual is experiencing will never fully resolve. Some of the acute symptoms may resolve initially; however, the more detrimental issues will remain over a longer period of time.

Why? One of the functions of cranial bone movement is the “pumping” of cerebro spinal fluid (CSF). CSF in the central nervous system (brain and spinal cord) has many roles. One of those specific roles is the removal of the metabolic waste products which are produced in the central nervous system (CNS). When a person suffers a head injury, the cranial bone movement is lessened, which slows the normal flow of the CSF. This “slowing” of normal CSF flow allows the metabolic waste products to remain in the central nervous system longer than normal. Over time, this will destroy brain tissue. When a person receives CMT, the CSF flow returns to normal, allowing the brain to heal and return to it’s pre-concussion condition. No other treatment or procedures for concussion accomplish this.

No matter where you reside, if you’re experiencing debilitating symptoms due to head injury, we offer a full consultation free of charge to discuss a patient's symptoms, health history, and recommended treatment. Again, there is never a charge for the consultation.
