Wow. I'm so angry right now. Chris (my boyfriend) just came home with Bailey (our dog) after taking her back to the vet to have her sutures removed. After they were done, Chris asked to speak with the head veterinarian to discuss his concerns regarding his initial visit. Not only did the veterinarian CALL HIM A LIAR*, but he refused to give the names of the technicians and other staff that dealt with Bailey! (After each request, the vet would repeatedly extend his hand and say sarcastically, "Hi, my name is Dr. Ned Caldwell." He displayed a wealth of sarcasm, condescension and rudeness throughout his conversation with Chris, but that's just a drop in the bucket after everything else that's happened.) Luckily for us, Deerfield shows the names of their staff blatantly online. The request was merely a formality.

Here's the back-story: Bailey had been attacked by a neighbor's lab and wound up with several gaping wounds in her side that were in need of stitches. We took her to the Emergency Veterinary Clinic, who took care of her beautifully, and Bailey was stitched, stapled, and given a drain to prevent any fluidic buildup. We were instructed to have the drain removed a few days after the initial surgery, but the sutures were not to be removed until approximately 10-14 days.

We had taken her to Deerfield once last week or so to have her drain removed and, AFTER EXPLICITLY TELLING THEM NOT TO, they removed her sutures as well as the drain. It had only been three days after the stitches had been put in! They had her paperwork on file--or, they should have--and we received verification from the Emergency Veterinary Clinic that they had forwarded Bailey's paperwork to Deerfield. So even if the tech hadn't "heard Chris properly" or whatever, they (A) should have at least been able to tell that the wounds were fresh and (B) should've been checking her paperwork. So, they had to restitch-and-staple her again. After bringing her back out, Julie Hays-Broene, a vet tech, showed us where they restapled Bailey by using her long, grotesquely filthy nails (directly touching her wounds and even digging into them, WITH SAID NAILS, mind you). That upset me, so I called her out on it, and she acted offended as if she hadn't just done something highly unhygienic. I'm sorry (not sorry), but I don't want the dog to have another visit due to an infection.

Anyway, we're positively disgusted with these people. We'll be contacting the American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA), potentially the police, slandering their name all over the internet, and WILL be in touch with this "veterinarian" again.

*the veterinarian said Chris had never scheduled an appointment for early in the morning (around 8 AM) the day the drain was removed and that, "We don't schedule appointments that early." However, the ignorant vet tech that was in charge of (errantly) removing Bailey's stitches specifically asked Chris when he walked in, "Is this Bailey?" She obviously knew of and was expecting the appointment. What, did they just conveniently erase the appointment from their books!?

P.S.: I would also like to note that Chris has been a faithful customer of Deerfield Vet for a very long time. It's astounding to know how poorly they treat their clientele and their patients.
