Dr. Richard Vagley, a native of Western Pennsylvania, is a member of the inaugural class of students educated in an accelerated medical/pre-medical program — five calendar years instead of eight academic years — sponsored jointly by The Pennsylvania State University (Penn State) and Jefferson Medical College (now Sidney Kimmel Medical College) of Philadelphia, which allowed Dr. Vagley to graduate from medical school at the age of 22. What followed was an Internship at The Mercy Hospital of Pittsburgh; service as a Lieutenant in the US Navy Medical Corps; a Residency in General Surgery at the Georgetown University Medical Center, Washington, DC; and finally a Residency in Plastic Surgery at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, Pittsburgh, PA.

Dr. Vagley became Certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery in 1977 and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons in 1980. Dr. Vagley is the former Medical Director of The Pittsburgh Institute of Plastic Surgery (PIPS) and, in that capacity, is particularly proud of his establishment of “PIPSqueaks”, a non-profit corporation, funded directly by Dr. Vagley, which provided free corrective plastic surgical care to disadvantaged children who needed, but could not afford, such care.

I felt very rushed. They barely spent two minutes with me and almost completely ignored me. When comparing them to others in their field, I would say they are by far the worst I have ever seen. I will never return. I was never able to relax during my appointment. I was on edge the whole time.

They don't treat their clients equally at all, and only make time for their favorite clients. If they didn't like me, they didn't make time for me. They didn't tell me anything about my treatment options. I left feeling very confused and frustrated. Whenever I called with a question or concern, the staff made me feel stupid for calling. I avoided calling because I didn't want to feel stupid.

Absolutely terrible bedside manner. Don't ask any questions in an intelligent manner or he will conclude the consultation immediately. It's his way or the highway. This is exactly why I did not let him do my BA years ago. I am GLAD I went to Florida as I am very confident he doesn't get many clients with his attitude. Both times I went for a consult, he had no office staff and when asked too many questions, he ends the consult. These reasons lead me to believe this guy gets very few patients. Beware and go to a surgeon that will allow you to ask any question and doesn't give you an attitude.
