Dr. Gelly himself seems to be knowledgeable doctor; but the management of the practice and communication with patients is poor. In dealing with an expired prescription, numerous misstatements and lies were told to me, no apology was ever given and Gelly was very defensive and deflecting of my complaint and concerns. I was never told that the prescription refills for a non-controlled substance (B12 injections) were limited and required a visit every 6-12 months. I learned only after calling once the refill was denied. Interestingly, this was at month 16, so they didn't even follow their own 6-12 month requirement. Office manager Susan told me there was a policy change to 12 months after a DEA audit. Dr. Gelly said the policy always was 12 months (which conflicts with the 16 months of refills and Susan's reference to a "change in policies"). As to the DEA audit, they only audit controlled substances, so this was an outright lie. When asked why they didn't call me to notify me of a change in policy, Office Manager Susan said they have too many patients and that's too much trouble for them to do. Luckily this wasn't some essential drug because if effort is required of them, then a patient's health is a secondary consideration. I will be changing Doctors as I cannot abide a doctor who refuses to admit fault when clearly it is theirs not mine, refuse to acknowledge my concerns, refuse to investigate and take corrective action on complaints, and are dismissive of patient complaints and concerns. Other issues include being put on long holds, forgotten or failed to get a promised return call.
Dr. Gelly himself is great, but his front office staff is extremely rude and unprofessional. The receptionist, Libby, will put you on hold and then forget that you're there, so you have to call back. Then you have to explain things to her several times. She's nice enough, but slow and easily confused. Susan, the office manager, is very unkind and needs to take a class in customer service. I think that if Dr. Gelly knew how mean she was to his patients, he'd fire her. After my last run-in with the staff, I said forget it and switched doctors (and switched the rest of my family too). I've been seeing him for 25+ years, but I simply can't deal with his staff anymore. It's just not worth it.
