I was Dr. Carder's patient for over twenty years. He helped me get on disability and Medicaid when I was destitute. He helped me immensely with my troubled childhood, my drug addiction, a long hospitalization and my recovery. My diagnosis favors medicine and every drug he prescribed we talked about and I felt he was highly engaging with me about decisions for medications. He was well informed about new drugs that came out and he encouraged me to research some of the side effects I had in order to make a more informed decision about my medication. I felt like we worked together to bring me back to health and happiness. A psychiatrist can only give you the tools, the work has to come from the patient, and one session will never cure anyone. Dr. Carder has a degree in Psychoanalysis, which by its nature is a long process. One visit cannot give anyone a proper impression of anyone.

He is a very kind, compassionate man. He does have a hearing problem from youth and some of the comments here I think are really because the people did not know this or were unwilling to accommodate his need for slightly slower, clear speech. He does use every available technology to overcome this and we never had a problem with his understanding what I was saying even if once or twice he had to ask me to repeat something, especially over the phone.

I moved out of state and had to find another Doctor, but I would whole-heartedly refer Dr. Carder. He is professional, knowledgable, and has an impressive body of work and credentials. I found him to be a wonderful and caring doctor. I had access to his emergency number, and he answered when I called at three in the morning during some of my bad times. He was always available to me and sorted out various pharmacy problems within hours. He would return phone calls the same day. I always felt safe knowing I could reach him no matter where I found myself.

I was referred to Dr Carder by a psychiatrist who claimed to have no knowledge of how to fill out the proper forms for filing a disability claim.
Despite the fact that Dr Carder was willing to sign these forms, he completely ignored my statement that my temporary mental condition was caused by unusually hostile conditions at work. He stated that in order to facilitate the receipt of benefits, he was going to indicate that this was not a work-related injury.
I reiterated that I felt very much that this was a work-related injury, and that his assessment was not one that could be made after only one visit. I offered to show evidence of the things I was experiencing, but instead of taking the time to consider things more deeply, he seemed more interested in doing what was easiest for himself.
It is for this reason that I believe Dr Carder is uncaring, at least in terms of the welfare of this patient, and at worst cares only about the certainty that his fees will be paid by the healthcare coverage of my former employer.
