My Husband passed away in the Hospital. The Oaks did not return the money for the days he didn't use at the facility, which was seven at a $178.00 per day private pay. So they kept $1,176.00 of my money for October since you have to pay a month in advance. His prescription Drug Coverage was supposed to be covered by his drug plan with a $2.00 co-pay. I was billed $420.00 for that after he died by Neighbor care out of Fort Wayne with a P.0 box number in Cinncinati, Ohio. I did not receive a bill until he passed, and didn't have the chance to secure his prescriptions myself. Be aware that Re-hab in this Nursing Facility has the power to cancel your Medicare Coverage if they say "they have taken your loved one to their highest potential they can go" from there it is private pay!! As far as the Aides and Nurses in this facility I have no complaints. My husband did have favorites though.

I am having total knee replacement in a week and was looking for a place to stay and receive physical therapy after surgery. I had already checked out another local facility but was anxious to visit THE OAKS as it was supposedly the premiere facility in Columbia City. My husband and I walked in the front door and the odors were overwhelming. It smelled of urine, etc. like nursing homes did 50 years ago. There was no one at the Reception Office and by the time we had taken a dozen more steps, we decided this was not the place for me anyway simply because of the smell. I will be staying at Miller's Merry Manor - nice people and no odor. Sincerely, Karen Sangillo
