The people seemed to be very good, but according to a friend of ours who was staying their with his wife, many of their valuables, and even boxes of chocolates, disappeared. I was very surprised. Again, the people who work there seem very empathetic and caring, and I am not accusing anyone in particular, but it seemed very ironic. I don't know if the problems is extensive in this center, but in the case of our friends, many, if not most, of their valuables and keepsakes were stolen. I think it is shameful.

My father recently sustained a stroke where he was unable to walk, eat, and he would become delusional at times. After he left the hospital he needed to go to a rehab facility/convalescent home. It was tough because his Medicare insurance gave him limited options. I visited Magnolia Gardens first of my week of tours of various facilities in the San Fernando Valley.

I came without an appointment and met with Elvira who dropped everything to show me around and to answer any questions I had. She is outstanding at her job. She is very pleasant to talk to and very knowledgeable. I was impressed from the start. It is located in a nice quiet residential neighborhood, the others were located in sketchy areas or on very loud busy streets. Upon walking in I noticed very happy residents and a clean facility. The building was not overcrowded with depressed senior citizens like I have noticed at other places. My father was only going to be there for a little while, but I thought that if it was going to be a long term then this is the place for him.

So this being the first place I visited, I was pleased but I had to do my due diligence. I visited 6 facilities within a 10 mile radius of Magnolia Gardens. Magnolia Gardens seemed like Trump Plaza compared to the other places. I was greeted with chaotic environments, overcrowded facilities, places that were filthy, and rooms where tenants were packed like sardines. Plus one place (Country Vila Sheraton), the physical therapy room had people in line to get therapy.

After my visits of many of the convalescent homes that the Valley had to offer, I thought it was a no brainer. I'll be sending my Dad to Magnolia Gardens. WRONG! I came on yelp and saw the review by MD. It was only one review, but in a decision like this I have to right on the money. So with that review, I decided to send my dad to a place in Woodland Hills with really good reviews. The place was average upon visiting but not as good as Magnolia. Unfortunately, they were filled to capacity and could not take him in at the time he needed to be there.

So I had a tough decision to make. The other choices I had left were a little better in reviews than Magnolia but were just plain disgusting or overcrowded if not both. I decided to roll the dice and send him to Magnolia. Worst case scenario if the reviewer MD is right, I'll just pull him out of there and send him somewhere else.

I would consider myself a young adult still but I'm getting up there in age. This was clearly one of the best decisions I've ever made. The people there were so nice and very attentive. My Dad was there for two months and we never had a problem with the staff. The physical therapists there are super nice and know what they are doing. I would say about 30-40% of their work is about motivating the seniors with positive reinforcements and they are masters at that.

Then there is Andrew. I am not to sure of his exact title but if I had to guess it would be head nurse. I would consider this guy their secret weapon. He treats all of his patients like family. This guy personifies class! He always made sure my dad and I were comfortable and got anything that we needed or wanted. I was there everyday and would view Andrew from afar. He treated everybody the same way. I was soooooo impressed by this guy. He loves his job and is excellent at it. My dad needed to go to a wedding and Andrew took the time to have my dad looking sharp. He could of just threw the tux on him, but he took the time to make sure every detail was perfect. He gave me instructions on how to care for my dad on his time out. There will never be a way to thank him enough for all that he has done. He's worth is weight in gold plus more!

Enclosing, the assistant nurses are very diligent and very nice. One in particular by the name of Marta treated my dad like if he was her own dad. She would visit my dad even if she was not scheduled to work with him for that particular day. I highly recommend this place to ANYONE! My dad is back to normal mentally and physically and this place had a lot to do with that. I am forever grateful.

I wasn't worried about their equipment. It was safe and well taken care of. I wasn't too impressed with their office, I could tell they didn't take much pride in it's appearance. Their office was clean enough, nothing special though. It was easy to get the appointment time that worked for my schedule. They were so kind and attentive to me. I didn't have to worry about them arguing with me, or contradicting what I had to say, which has been a problem for me at other places.
