The dentist I had seemed to dislike people who have Medicaid Insurance. The providers encourage patients to have teeth pulled rather than treated to save the teeth. When a patient insists on trying to save the tooth, the dentists refuse to use porcelain crowns - even when the tooth being treated is in the front and WOULD be covered by Medicaid. Quote, "With the number of Medicaid patients we see we had to set a limit and so we chose our limit to be up to the age of 21." So, basically, only children can get a porcelain crown at Marshfield - which virtually guarantees them very few crowns indeed! (How many children need crowns?) The dentists advise patients needing crowns to "save up" for the $1000-$1500 crown presuming such savings is possible. They even refuse to instal porcelain crowns made through an "Angel donation" insisting the "one-size-fits-all metal crowns that cause chronic irritation is the only crown they will put on. My dentist also did not sufficiently numb the area to be worked on. When I told him I was still sensitive he insisted I wasn't and proceeded to hurt me with the procedure. My complaint was met with legal liability jargon to protect themselves rather than truly caring about me. For most Medicaid patients, this is the only dental facility within an hour's drive that will accept patients - so Medicaid patients are given the choice of "our way or no way." Their way (Marshfield's way) is better than no way - but humane, caring, considerate? No. Absolutely not!
