An excellent physician who listened attentively to my concerns and offered a treatment regimen that has improved both my health and my attitude. His staff were professional and courteous toward me and I was in and out in a short time. I am grateful for finding a doctor in East Texas that would meet my needs and help to alleviate my pain. I would recommend this man simply because he helped me with my problems. What more could be said when you are truly hurting?

My pain management doctor retired and there are only two pain management doctors in nacogdoches, tx. I visited with this arrogant and rude doctor only once and would advise any chronic pain patient to stay very far away from him. He has no compassion for his patients and states immediately that you will abuse pain medicine therefore he only wants to do spinal injections and implant devices. He was rude and showed no compassion for any of his patients. I learned this not only from my own experience but he shouts when he is with patients so nothing is confidential in his office.

The staff did not inform me of the cost of the procedure until the third or fourth visit at which point I had about an $800 bill. On multiple occasions while in the waiting room I heard other patients commenting on how the doctor only wanted to do injections. While doing the first steroid injection next to my spine he hit a nerve and caused my leg to twitch wildly. The temperature was 75 to 80 degrees in his office, which is way above what you should have for any medical procedure involving a needle or any other invasive procedure as high temps like that can cause a drop in blood pressure. Combined with a needle or other pain it can cause a vasovagal reaction which lowers the blood pressure. When I found out about the obscenely high bill the doctor approached me in the exam room harassing me about paying the bill telling me that it was not responsible to not pay the bill all at once. I explained to him that I was not told about the cost of the injection before receiving them and that I could not pay off that bill in one payment and that I would do my best to pay it off over time. He made a comment saying that he should just try not paying his bills at the office, that it would be okay if he didn't pay electric and rent etc. I told him again that I couldn't afford to pay it all at once as I was not told how much it would cost until the third or fourth visit. He then said that this is the best part of being a doctor and muttered something rude and unintelligible about his patients and stalked out of the room. He also made a rude comment about the pain medication and shoved the prescription pad in my face, with the door open to my room and the rooms of the nearby patients. This alone clearly violated HIPPA regulations. I was not seeking medication, I was seeking treatment. I was in a wreck at 18 and have had degeneritive disk disease since. At age 20 I was told that I had the back of a 40 year old. This doctor did not take into account the accident that lead to my disorder or the pain I was in. The injections did not help my condition and only caused more pain. I would not advise going to this doctor if you have any other choice whatsoever. I have an audio recording of some of this conversation and have been considering whether or not to report him.

Do not waste your time seeing this doctor. Humiliates staff and patients in front of everyone yelling loud enough to be heard. Injections is the only thing he wants to do whether you need them or not, even when your condition prohibits them. Has no compassion for people who really have chronic pain and the medical records to prove the pain. Very arrogant personality and unfortunately due to certain insurance he is the only choice for a very large area. He knows this and does not even try to be a normal human being and realize that pain is not a joke, and living with it on a daily basis with little or no help is impossible to do. No one with chronic pain ask to be put in that condition. Realizing there are people that do abuse drugs, I understand you have to be careful. Obviously, this doctor has not dealt with very much physical pain in his life and he is unaware what a blessing that is. He either has let his degree and money go to his head and forgot why he became a doctor or he is just plain arrogant and never had any compassion for people. I Do Not recommend him to anyone especially elderly people who can be taken advantage of very easily. If you have an elderly relative going to him, I strongly suggest if you care about them to go somewhere else or to go with them to the appointment and make your own judgement. On the plus side the staff even though they change frequently, have always been great!! I feel sorry for them.

I am a Marine Veteran with severe injuries but due to my age Dr. Tanhui said that I would abuse any drugs that I would receive. He said that my 500 pages of military medical records including surgery photos, MRIs, CT scans, X-ray, and two years of documentation from a previous government approved pain management clinic were not valid and said "They look like records from one of those back alley clinics that just hand out drugs". Overall Dr. Tanhui was rude and would not listen. I will never go back again. I also strongly encourage others to seek care elsewhere.
