I have filed for an exemption for not vaccinating my 1 year old daughter and before you throw the book at me, as a parent and responsible adult I have to think about the health of my child first because she has no voice and she can't tell me if something hurts her so we will be that voice and stand up for her.
My daughter was caught up on her baby shots when something terrible happened. She had a very weird episode (both incidents happened while sleeping) that resembled a seizure but lacked a few hardcore evidence (like all of her tests came back normal) docs couldn't explain to us why this happened to her. She's healthy! The only thing that changed in her diet was incorporating whole milk into her formula (half formula half whole milk).
So we decided to take her off of whole milk to see if that was the cause. No signs of those seizure-like episodes for a whole week. So, taking the docs advice and passing it as a fluke we put her back on whole milk...three days later she has another seizure like episode, but this one was worse than the second time because this one actually looked like a full seizure but again lacked a few things that would other wise tell me "Hey, this was a seizure".
We don't have her on whole milk anymore and no more strange incidents. But the doctors now want to start her on seizure meds (Huh? They don't even know what she had) But anyway, my husband and I decided not to get her vaccinated because of this reason. Doctors don't know, they won't give her an allergy test.
My daughter has eczema (not severe though) she drinks Enfamil Nutramigen (yes, the expensive, hypoallergetic formulas for babies allergic to cow's milk) but no one is listening.
My daughter's health means the world to me; I look at her everyday and she's so smart and funny. I cannot bear to think that if I continue to vaccinate her any further what will I be doing to her immune system. I couldn't live with myself if she left home normal one day and came back autistic?
When you buy a new flat screen tv you don't go in the back tinkering with it out of fear it might break down. If it isn't broken, don't fix it. I am executing my rights as a parent to say no more vaccinations. I was in the military and was forced to be vaccinated with no say so other wise and don't know what the long term effects are of those vaccines but I'll tell you one thing, it won't happen to my daughter.
I helped to fight to protect our freedoms and people tend to forget what they can take a stand for.
What I am say is this, if your child has not shown you that their health is an issue when it comes to vaccinating them then do what you know they can handle but in my case no thanks. I couldn't live with myself crippling my daughter for life for someone else's greed.
Hi Lottelotte,
I say follow your gut. When I was a child we had chickenpox parties and now they vaccinate for it. Why are our bodies no longer able to fight chickenpox? The truth is, we are still able to fight this disease. If you take care of your body, lots of pure water, fruits, vegetables and raw seeds and nuts, exercise and getting adjusted by a chiropractor then your body will be able to fight these diseases naturally. You might still be infected, but most things; measles, mumps, chickenpox, etc last a couple of weeks at most. Also, when your body fights it off naturally it will be able to fight it off forever, this is not true with vaccines. And it really irkes me that now they are recommending Hep B and HPV vaccines - these are STDs. I recommend talking to your children about sex, not just giving them a shot and hoping they will be safe. Okay, great books to read are Shot in the Dark, Vaccines are they really safe& effective by Neil Z. Miller and vaccines, autism and childhood disorders also by Neil Miller. Our daughter was given the chicken pox vaccine & soon after her immune system went nuts & next thing we know she was diagnosed with Juvenile Diabetes. We were never sure WHAT caused the diabetes, but it was always in the back of our minds that it may have had something to do with that immunization. When it was time for our son to get it, we passed. The school wasn't happy with us, but oh well. He got chicken pox just like hubby & I did in kindergarten & today he's happy & healthy.
It seems to me that there was a time when there were a few “standard” vaccinations that didn’t pose many risks or complications. I have a few questions…
1. When was the risk of Autism linked to vaccines?
2. When were additional vaccines added to the old standard MM&R
3. Were the newer vaccines introduced around the time the Autism studies were done?
4. Could the increase in population just be contributing to the increasing number of Autism diagnoses?
5. Are children just being diagnosed with Autism for a label?
I’m thinking I would rather risk my child having Autism than risk losing them to Polio or Rubella. I think if there is a link, it may be because of some of the more “recent” vaccines introduced over the years, I know several Autistic children, yet no adults. I wonder if it’s possible to select the vaccines your child can receive. Any thoughts or info on these questions?
I know some of you are throwing around the word "Scientific" out there. However, the evidence that is being used by the CDC and doctors etc. is correlational. You can't infer causal relationships from correlational/epidemiological data unless you can rule out all possible confounding factors, or at least a reasonable amount of them. To get causal relationships you need controlled studies, using random assignment and control groups. You also need to replicate the results with at least several similar studies. You might conclude that Polio was virtually wiped out by vaccination, but a closer look at history shows that rates were dropping dramatically prior to immunization. Why is that? People speculate better hygine, cleaner water, things like that...but those are just correlations as well. Though Autism does not correlate with the general figures for immunization, the former head of the NIH stated recently that these correlations do not discount the possibility that immunizations could bring out the disorder in special populations and that health professionals are too quick to discount the hypothesis that immunizations have something to do with Autistic Spectrum Disorders. The correct conclusion is that scientists do not know until better studies are done. However, at this time, no one can say what causes Autism, so we're a long way away. Anecdotally, my brother has a friend whose daughter and son became autistic following immunization...is that correlational, yes it is. So, you have decide for yourself until better science comes about.
I have to agree and disagree with you. I am not yet a parent, but I will only vaccinate my children as infants for severely debilitating diseases. I will wait to vaccinate for Hepatitis B, Varicella (chicken pox) and possibly HPV (gardisil) until they are school age at the earliest.
I am a PA in family medicine and we do not take kids until after age 5. The reason is you LOSE lots of money if you give all the vaccinations. The reason your doctor bills the insurance $200 dollars is because reimbursement is terrible and usually delayed, and you can only expect 50-70 percent of your charges. When we purchase vaccines, they come in packs of 10 or larger and some are around $125 a vial for us. So for $1250 we can give ten shots and hope insurance pays at least 66% to break even. Well, in business if you break even, you lose because you have to pay for your overhead. It is a major financial sacrifice for a pediatrician to give vaccines in their office and a convenience for you, not lucrative for them.
personally i wouldn't vaccinate my child. i don't believe that it's necessary and it's not what nature intended. be informed before making this crucial decision to vaccinate your child.

Hello! I was glad to find someone who questions immunizations the way I do! I have a 4 1/2 year old who is up to date on all immunizations so far. I am debating continuing the schedule for my 6 month old. I would love if anyone had any information regarding getting around the school system regarding required immunizations, and wheher it's a good idea to limit my 6 month old's immunizations. Thanks for any help!
I want to know of any good arguments why children should
or should not be immunized.Â
When evaluating anything, there has to be a measuring stick, and for infant
health, the gold standard is the Infant Mortality Rate (IMR). Unfortunately, the US
ranks dead last. Why??? Maybe the answer is in finding out how the top countries
handle it. Japan simply changed its vaccination age from 2 months to 2 years, the
incidence of SIDS dropped dramatically, and Japan went from a ranking of 17th in
the world to first. Still thinking about immunizing your child?
Consider, injected murcury is far more toxic than ingested mercury. There is
no blood-brain barrier in infants which allows mercury to accumulate in brain
cells and nerves. Also, infants don't produce bile, which is necessary to excrete
mercury. Thimerosal then becomes organic mercury. Still think the rise in Autism
is just a coincidence.
Some additional thoughts:
Please do some research before making this major decision.
Schools can not force you to vaccinate. Each state varies, know your rights!
Trust in the body's ability to heal and protect itself.
If you are set on immunizing, wait until age 2.
Yours in better health,
Dr Rick Stockmaster
Hi Dr Stockmaster,
I live in Massachusetts and would like to know; is there a way to get around immunizations for kindergarten entry? I would like to cut down on my children's immunizations and can't seem to get around the school system. Any advice would be appreciated!
Google medical exemption from vaccinating MA. Thats what I did for Missouri and actually found a card that you get from the health department labeling your child exempt from vaccines for day care of school.
