The summer is great for both dog owners and their dogs. Nobody is
thinking about the cold hard winter but when that season does
come, many dog owners beat themselves because they wish they
could have trained their dogs, especially the smaller breeds, to use
an indoor potty or dog litter box. This will help eliminate the really
bad snowstorm days. Of course, the nicer sunny and not too cold
days in the winter will still be great days for dog walks.
I've run into many dog owners, some with new summer puppies and
they just train their dogs to go outdoors like with most big dogs. But
when winter rolls around and they hear that they could have had an
indoor potty option where their little dog could have used a dog
litter box inside when it's really bad outside, they regret not training
their little pooches with that option.
The thing is if you want you dog fully indoor potty trained to use a
dog litter box by the time winter rolls around, start the training now
during the summer. Don't wait until the first snowfall to come. For
puppies, it won't take that long for them to be trained so that they
know where to go indoors (to their indoor potty or dog litter box)
and where to go outdoors as well. My two dogs are trained this way.
But for older dogs who have been going outdoors for years, it will
take maybe the entire summer and fall to fully get them use to the
idea that eliminating in an indoor potty is acceptable. So this is why
we want to start their training progression now so that there is
ample lead time before the cold winter.

training website.
